  • Stunning rural location surrounded by Northumberland countryside
  • A stylish barn conversion in Northumberland National Park Property powered by 100% green energy
  • Located in Europe’s largest ‘Dark Skies’ region – ideal for stargazers
Property code: CN043

A beautifully spacious converted ban sleeping six, this extensive property is located in the peaceful hamlet of Alwinton. It’s situated in the Northumberland National Park, which was recently designated a ‘Dark Skies’ area – the views of the night sky untainted by light pollution are truly sensational. Surrounded on all sides by hills, valleys and rivers, the barn offers plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and horse-riding in unspoilt countryside. Alwinton is home to the Rose and Thistle pub, while a little further away the villages of Thropton and Rothbury feature galleries, quirky shops and tearooms. The National Trust-owned Cragside House is well worth the short drive, while Kielder Water, Alnwick and Hadrian’s Wall are great options for full-day excursions.

All the accommodation in the three-bedroom, three-bathroom barn is on the ground floor, so ideal for guests with mobility issues. The living area includes a lounge with exposed beams, three sofas and DVD, CD and games, plus a separate spacious kitchen/dining room with a table seating eight and appliances including a washing machine and dishwasher. Each of the three super-comfortable double bedrooms features a TV and the trio of bathrooms includes one with a freestanding bath and a wet room with LED shower head. Real oak flooring throughout the property adds to the ambience and is under-heated using – as everywhere in the barn – 100 percent green energy through solar panels and an air source heat pump. A bright, sun-filled conservatory at the front of the building affords lovely views over the garden out to the Cheviot Hills. This is Northumberland at its most rural, so don’t be surprised to open the curtains in the morning and find sheep grazing directly next to the property.

Outside, the enclosed garden features a table and chairs plus a BBQ for al fresco dining, while there is ample off-road parking in the communal car parking area, a short distance from the property. There is also a communal payphone on site as the mobile signal can be patchy.

Cottage is large, beautifully & beds very comfortable. Lovely views & walks right from cottage. Kitchen is well appointed with plates (nothing for kids), saucepans etc & there is a welcome pack. It is very rural, so be prepared to travel. BUT: 5pm arrival is vary late. 1st thing we had to do was buy hand soap, cloths, binbags & washing up liquid foRead morer kitchen! Cottage is only superficially clean & there are cleaning jobs for guests to do before leaving - think cleaners only change beds! Hide
