Property code: CN050

This secluded stone cottage has everything for nature lovers – superb views of the rolling Cheviots, a pretty river minutes from the front door and a prime spot to view the region’s fabled dark skies.

Country retreats don’t get any better than this gem of a cottage in the village of Alwinton on the eastern edge of Northumberland National Park. This is an area of undulating hills, heather-covered moorland and – just a few steps away from the property – the meandering River Coquet, perfect for anglers to test their skills. Look up during daylight hours and you’ll spot dippers, curlews and osprey, while the night offers prime celestial viewing in this ‘Dark Skies’ designed area. The Rose and Thistle in Alwinton is the village’s social hub, while vibrant Alnwick and the coast are less than an hour away by car.

The ground floor comprises a lounge featuring two sofas, plus a separate dining room with a table and seating for six. A well-equipped kitchen has a wooden floor and includes a dishwasher, microwave and a further six-seater table. There is also a laundry room with washing machine. Up a flight of stairs you reach the first floor, where you will find three comfortable bedrooms: a double with wardrobe, dressing table and box seat under the window, a twin and a single. The bathroom features a shower over the bath and WC.

Outside, you can enjoy panoramic countryside views from your private lawned garden that contains a table, chairs and chiminea. Allocated off-road parking is available. Note that the cottage includes an interconnecting door leading to an adjoining property – Coquet Cottage. This makes it an ideal choice for large groups or two families sleeping up to 11 people.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
