In a perfect location for both beach lovers and those looking for a countryside retreat, this cottage is close to the stunning Alnmouth Beach, the bustling village high street and the cultural hotspots of Alnwick Gardens and Alnwick Castle (where they filmed scenes from the Harry Potter films and Downton Abbey). No wonder it was voted 'Holiday Destination of the Year' by Countryfile Magazine in 2017! It’s an ideal place to suit everyone’s tastes and whether you're an outdoor lover, foodie, culture junkie or an adventurer, you'll find the perfect activity.

Just a few stone steps will lead you into the charming stone-built cottage where you will be greeted with contemporary, clean decor and a convenient cloakroom bathroom with WC. A large open plan lounge kitchen and dining area provides family and friends with the perfect hub to relax, catch up and enjoy each other's company in while stylish wood flooring create a country feel with a chic twist. Ample comfortable seating centres around a TV, while design-led touches that give the space a stylish edge. Fully fitted with a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and oven with hob, for all your self-catering needs. The dining table has ample room for four guests, while the marble-topped breakfast bar provides casual dining and additional seating for three. The kitchen also includes a washer/dryer. On the first floor, guests can choose between two double bedrooms, both which boast generously sized en-suite shower rooms with underfloor heating and luxurious finishes and fittings for a restful stay. The first bedroom has a super-king-size bed, for added luxury. However, it is a zip and link bed, so can be transformed into a twin room for sharing. Will be set up as a twin, unless specified.

The generous open plan, ground-floor living area features modern bi-fold doors that lead to a delightful decked balcony area. Here, guests can enjoy a dip in their private hot tub with a wooden fence for added privacy, sleek patio furniture and lovely views of the surrounding area. It’s the perfect spot for al fresco dining on balmy summer evenings. There is also access to a communal patio area with a large dining table and communal BBQ. Off-road parking is available for up to two cars.

This cottage is fantastic and has everything you need. Its accessible for walking into Alnwick (10 minutes) and is 4 miles from Almouth. The beds are comfy, the cottage is scrupulously clean and the owners are always around if you need them.

This accommodation is excellent we have thoroughly enjoyed our week there and it is so convenient for the town and the coast. Loads of restaurants in Alnwick and the house also has plenty of equipment to eat in-house or have a bbq. This cottage is immaculate, very well equipped and in a superb location. Alnwick Castle is within walking distance and Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne and boats to the Farne Islands (from Seahouses) about 25 minutes drive away. (Note that the birds on Farne Islands nest from approx May to end of July). The unspoilt beaches are stunning.

I would highly recommend Thornbrae Retreat to any future visitor. It was very comfortable, clean and modern and extremely well maintained. Very pleasant and roomy accommodation. Although we did not cook all the time the kitchen was very well equipped with all you would need. Hot tub was great and beds were very comfortable. Perfect place for visiting around the Northumberland Coast and Scottish Lowlands.

Right on the edge of Alnwick and easy driving to many other places. It was spacious, quiet (we were the only guests in the complex) and relaxing. The Thomsons (new owners) were lovely.
