There’s space aplenty in this superbly appointed stone cottage located in one of the Isle of Wight’s prettiest valleys, just a short drive from the golden sands of Brighstone, Ventnor and Shanklin.

This lovely stone cottage is situated in the small, rural hamlet of Bowcombe within the Bowcombe Valley – designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It lies between Shorwell and Carisbrooke, with its superb medieval castle. Just a short drive away, both villages feature great pubs serving home-cooked food, while the lovely small bays and coves of the southwest of the island are nearby. Closest is Brighstone beach, just a short drive away, while the larger resorts of Ventnor and Shanklin are not much further. The Bowcombe Valley is a lovely walking area – several footpaths can be picked up close to the cottage, and there is easy access to the Tennyson and Shepherds trails.

Step through the front door of this semi-detached cottage into a real gem of a property. The attractive, open-plan lounge/dining area is bright and airy – furnished with comfortable leather sofas, a wood burner and Smart TV with DVD, it’s a lovely space that affords beautiful views through the windows and French doors over the garden and out to the downs beyond. The modern kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher, while a fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer can be found in a separate utility room adjoining the kitchen. The ground floor is also home to a single bedroom, a twin bedroom plus a shower room with WC. Upstairs you will find two pretty double bedrooms – both with original fireplaces – and a bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC.

Outside there is a pleasant and secluded garden at the rear of the cottage, which is enclosed by a fence and often visited by wildlife including rabbits, pheasants and partridges. From here the views of the fields and downs are idyllic – you may even be able to glimpse the medieval castle at Carisbrooke in the distance. An attractive paved seating area with built-in BBQ and plenty of garden furniture means that you’ll soon be enjoying some al fresco dining in the sunshine or under the stars. There is off-street parking for two cars at the side of the cottage.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

The cottage is ideally situated in the centre of the island. Lounge and bedrooms very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The garden is lovely and well maintained. Parking is a bit tight but we have two large cars. Other than the issue of the wifi we thought the cottage was great.

Recommend. We were very pleased with this cottage. Facilities were excellent and of a high standard. Though adjacent to a main road (for the Isle of Wight), noise level was negligible both inside the house and in the garden, which was a pleasure to sit in.
