Property code: IC017

This lovely stone cottage is situated in the small, rural hamlet of Bowcombe within the Bowcombe Valley – designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It lies between Shorwell and Carisbrooke, with its superb medieval castle. Just a short drive away, both villages feature great pubs serving home-cooked food, while the lovely small bays and coves of the southwest of the island are nearby. Closest is Brighstone beach, just a short drive away, while the larger resorts of Ventnor and Shanklin are not much further. The Bowcombe Valley is a lovely walking area – several footpaths can be picked up close to the cottage, and there is easy access to the Tennyson and Shepherds trails.

Step through the front door of this semi-detached cottage into a real gem of a property. The attractive, open-plan lounge/dining area is bright and airy – furnished with comfortable leather sofas, a wood burner and TV with a Sky Q box with Sky entertainment package, and DVD, it’s a lovely space that affords beautiful views through the windows and French doors over the garden and out to the downs beyond. The modern kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher, while a fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer can be found in a separate utility room adjoining the kitchen. The ground floor is also home to a single bedroom with a Smart TV (no aerial connection, so can only be used to view via the internet) , a twin bedroom plus a shower room with WC. Upstairs you will find two pretty double bedrooms – both with original fireplaces – and a bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC.

Outside there is a pleasant and secluded garden at the rear of the cottage, which is enclosed by a fence and often visited by wildlife including rabbits, pheasants and partridges. From here the views of the fields and downs are idyllic – you may even be able to glimpse the medieval castle at Carisbrooke in the distance. An attractive paved seating area with built-in BBQ and plenty of garden furniture means that you’ll soon be enjoying some al fresco dining in the sunshine or under the stars. There is off-street parking for two medium sized cars at the side of the cottage.

A fabulous location and a very roomy cottage. Extremely well equipped kitchen. Lovely big garden with gorgeous views across the fields to the Downs beyond. The parking is on a slope but we manged to park 2 medium estate cars without issue.

A lovely cottage, great location. Bad points... Hot water scalding - dangerous with children. Some supplied equipment not working. Stairs are very steep. Getting out on the main road is a gamble - unsighted and on a blind bend. Internet didn't work for four days - engineer was called and it was fixed eventually. Beautiful house with large garden. Care needed when leaving drive as passing traffic not always easy to spot. All family enjoyed their stay at Bramble Cottage which is a really comfortable and well equipped house.

Lovely quality furnishings and kitchen was very well equipped. The only thing was the very small wardrobes in the the front upstairs bedroom and the single one downstairs. When hanging your clothes they dragged on the floor of the wardrobes making them creased. So not ideal for hanging dresses. This is not a complaint just an observation. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Bramble cottage. A lovely, spacious house and well-kept garden in a central location that worked really well for our group of six (inc. four kids - 16, 11, 8 and 7). The house was clean apart from some mess left by the cleaners!
