This converted forge provides everything you need for a memorable holiday, with super-comfortable accommodation complemented by an outstanding location in the Isle of Wight’s ravishing countryside.

Originally an ancient forge dating back to the 1600s, the cottage is in the grounds of an old manor house in bucolic countryside close to the chocolate-box village of Godshill. The property is surrounded by enchanting gardens that include extensive lawned areas and an attractive duck pond. Walkers and cyclists will love the location of the cottage – nearby you can pick up trails to Godshill, while other routes follow the course of the River Yar that meanders down to the south coast. The sandy beaches of Shanklin and Sandown are a short drive away, as is the vibrant market town of Newport and the impressive medieval castle at Carisbrooke.

Furnished and equipped in a traditional style, the cottage is accessed via two sets of steps onto a terrace. Here, doors lead into a large, open-plan lounge/diner furnished with comfortable armchairs and sofas – great for unwinding in front of the TV – plus an attractive dining area with a table and seats for six. French doors lead out to the lovely garden. The kitchen includes an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and small breakfast area, while you also have use of a freezer and tumble dryer. A door in the kitchen leads to a small single bedroom that features an en-suite bathroom with WC. Upstairs there are two additional bedrooms – one double and one twin, both with en-suite shower rooms with shower and WC.

Outside you have use of a delightful fenced garden at the front of the cottage, with a lawn and a secluded patio plus garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. Visitors have access to the lovely lake in the grounds, which is home to a variety of ducks. There is off-road parking for up to three cars immediately outside the property.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

A lovely cottage and location, ideal for dog lovers. The owner met us on arrival, gave plenty of info/ answered questions and was available during our stay.

The cottage is ideally placed to visit all parts of the island. We found the property well kitted out and our host was most helpful in providing information about beaches and walks where we could exercise our three dogs. We were made to feel at home. Certainly a place we would love to return to if we visited the island again.

The owner is very nice and the cottage is in a quiet location with a garden and lots of bushes and birds. The cottage has plenty of information about the local area and you can walk into Godshill with its picturesque buildings and tea rooms

A lovely spacious cottage situated a few minutes drive from the lovely village of Godshill. Perfect for anyone with dogs, with a lovely secure garden accessible from both the kitchen and lounge. We found it difficult to source a property that took multiple dogs; we had four, but this was perfect for them with the large open plan lounge/diner. ThereRead more were lovely walks from the doorstep, both in the surrounding grounds and across fields into Godshill village without having to use the car. Hide

A beautiful property that you feel immediately at home in. Duck pond and lovely walk through the woods along the river. Absolutely loved it, perfectly situated for exploring the island.

We had a really good time at the cottage and would return in the future. The landlady was so welcoming and helpful in every way. Unfortunately we didn't see the red squirrels but perhaps in the future we shall be able to. Ideal location for the rest of the island and for children. Thank you for a lovely restful holiday.
