This converted forge provides everything you need for a memorable holiday, with homely accommodation complemented by an outstanding location in the Isle of Wight’s ravishing countryside.

Originally an ancient forge dating back to the 1600s, the cottage is in the grounds of an old manor house in bucolic countryside close to the chocolate-box village of Godshill. The property is surrounded by enchanting gardens that include extensive lawned areas and an attractive duck pond. Walkers and cyclists will love the location of the cottage – nearby you can pick up trails to Godshill, while other routes follow the course of the River Yar that meanders down to the south coast. The sandy beaches of Shanklin and Sandown are a short drive away, as is the vibrant market town of Newport and the impressive medieval castle at Carisbrooke.

Furnished and equipped in a traditional style with antique furniture, the cottage is accessed via two sets of steps onto a terrace. Here, doors lead into a large, open-plan lounge/diner furnished with armchairs and sofas – great for unwinding in front of the TV – plus an attractive dining area with a table and seats for six. French doors lead out to the lovely garden. The kitchen includes an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, freezer and small breakfast area, while you also have use of a tumble dryer. A door in the kitchen leads to a small single bedroom that features a compact en-suite bathroom with WC. Upstairs there are two additional bedrooms – one double and one twin, both with en-suite shower rooms with shower and WC.

Outside you have use of a delightful fenced garden at the front of the cottage, with a lawn and a secluded patio plus garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. Visitors have access to the lovely lake in the grounds, which is home to a variety of ducks. There is off-road parking for up to three cars immediately outside the property.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Its an old cottage which has adapted to fit a 5 bed holiday let on a budget. Its not a luxury let but a very comfortable cottage, perfect for walking and animal friendly, we lived in our walking boots. There were plenty of towels available for muddy dog too. Apart from a wobbly shower which needed holding up everything was great, well worth what weRead more paid. Hide

Lovely owner who made us welcome but also left us alone (perfect). Cosy comfy cottage which was great for the dogs too. We had rainy weather but I should imagine this place is absolutely beautiful on better days. Very quiet and unspoilt. Would love to return.

The cottage is in a lovely quiet area, little enclosed garden, very dog friendly with walks nearby and enough parking for a couple of cars, quite spacious and fairly comfy but does need a deep clean. The owner is very welcoming an helpful.

Ideal cottage, easy to access all places on the Island. Accommodation is Lovely and very well suited for dog owners with good secure garden and allows a good area for exercising your dog. It is also linked to a bridlepath that gives nice safe walks.

A lovely, comfortable, very dog friendly, cottage in a great location walking distance from the pretty village and great shops and pubs in Godshill. It does need some updating and a thorough deep clean. The delightful mature garden is private and quiet and the host couldnt have been more welcoming.

The cottage is in a lovely place. The host is lovely and very helpful but the cottage itself is in need of an update. The furniture is old and uncomfortable. The beds, especially the one in the downstairs bedroom, were very uncomfortable.
