At a glance

  • Traditional coastal cottage in a quiet location on the clifftop at St Alban’s Head on the Dorset coast
  • Breath-taking sea views to be enjoyed from the garden and many the cottage’s rooms
  • Excellent location on the Isle of Purbeck with a short drive to Swanage with a secluded cove, ideal for swimming, within walking distance
Property code: IC036

This property enjoys a stunning clifftop location with spectacular sea views and is situated walking distance from the secluded cove at Chapman’s Pool. This quiet cove is a popular spot for strong swimmers as well as fossil hunters, thanks to the area’s rich geological history. A more traditional family-friendly beach can be found in Swanage, which is located a short drive from the property and offers a wide sandy beach, beach-front entertainment, a restored Victorian pier, and a good choice of cafes and restaurants.

Once two separate cottages, this property has been thoughtfully renovated to create a spacious holiday retreat in a stunning clifftop vantage, from which sea views can be viewed from the majority of the rooms including all bedrooms. Upon arrival, guests have a choice of rooms in which to unwind after their journey, as there are two separate lounges. The first of these is a light-filled room offering two sofas and a large armchair, TV, heaters and a set of doors from here lead through to the second lounge: a cosy space with another open fire, toys and games. The cottage’s generously sized kitchen is a well-equipped room where guests will find everything they need to make themselves at home including an AGA oven, hob, microwave, small air fryer, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Leading on from the kitchen you will find a dining area complete with a wood burning stove. A convenient cloakroom with WC can also be found on the ground floor and the door to the leading to the rear garden.  Whilst the bathroom with its shower-over ¾-sized bath and WC can be found upstairs on the first floor alongside the property’s four bedrooms. All of the bedrooms have been simply and elegantly furnished to create restful retreats with views across the countryside or out to sea, allowing guest to wake up to simply stunning views. The master bedroom is a king-size room, in addition to which there are two double rooms and one twin.

Outside, the property benefits from a spacious, lawned garden which is fully enclosed by a wall and a gate. This is an idyllic place to relax and play and is furnished with table and chairs, however guests should be aware that the gate is not secured and there is open access to the clifftop beyond the gate, therefore children should not be left alone in the garden. There is parking for three cars just outside the cottage. Please note that the property is approached via a 1.5 mile long unmade track, and is not suitable for cars with low-ground clearance.

  • 4 bedrooms - 1 king-size, 2 doubles, and 1 twin
  • Bathroom with shower-over-3/4 sized bath and WC

If you want quiet, birds and a seaview, this is perfect. A large cottage with big rooms, upstairs carpeted, downstairs tiled floor throughout. Front and back gardens are secure and great for small children to play. The track is potholed and other comments about no low-slung cars is right but going slowly, a small 2-wheel drive car can do it. CottagRead moree well-equipped as long as you know about the Aga and let it heat up in time. Hide

Great isolated location although, as others have said, the potholed unmade road should be allowed for. This, plus the lack of sufficient bathroom/shower for 8 people, and lack of water from the taps in the one bathroom, brings down the comfort and value for money.

This was our third visit. I love the beauty and tranquility of the area. Such fabulous views from all windows in the cottage. The gardens, front and rear, are excellent for dogs as they are fully enclosed. The cottage is spacious and comfortable. There are plenty of walks right from the door. I hope to return again some time.

The location is incredible and the cottage is beautiful. The track - I agree its difficult but manageable - wouldnt do it in a sports car.

Wonderful welcoming cosy location with a well equipped house. Being so close to the wildness of the coast is super special. The one toilet flushing problem was acknowledged but not fixed, no one came which was a shame. Totally recommend the place however!!

Beautiful cottage. Superb coastal scenary. 1.5 miles from civilisation. Drive slowly and don't bring your Ferrari (or any vehicle with a low wheel base).

The track to the property gets a few comments but its hard stone and not rutted, so no need for 4-wheel drive as someone suggested. Our Hond Civic managed it with no issues but you would do well to eave your classic sports car at home. Cottage location is beautiful and cottage is comfortable, well provided with equipment and the heating is good. WeRead more struggled at first with the Aga as were not used to them, there is a Microwave and Air-fryer. Hide

The cottage is beautiful. The location breathtaking The late check in is tough especially when its dark and weather is awful, but overall we had a fabulous stay. We had a problem with the water pump so we were without water for our last evening and morning so this did put a dampener on our stay, but Conrad was very helpful.
