Property code: IC036

Former-coastguard’s cottage sleeping six guests in four bedrooms, offering spectacular sea views and a spacious lawned garden, located on St Alban’s Head on the Isle of Purbeck peninsula.

This property enjoys a stunning clifftop location with spectacular sea views and is situated walking distance from the secluded cove at Chapman’s Pool. This quiet cove is a popular spot for strong swimmers as well as fossil hunters, thanks to the area’s rich geological history. A more traditional family-friendly beach can be found in Swanage, which is located a short drive from the property and offers a wide sandy beach, beach-front entertainment, a restored Victorian pier, and a good choice of cafes and restaurants.

Once two cottages, this property has been thoughtfully renovated to create a spacious holiday retreat in a stunning clifftop vantage, from which sea views can be viewed from the majority of the rooms. Upon arrival, guests have a choice of rooms in which to unwind after their journey, as there are two separate lounges. The first of these is a light-filled room offering an inviting sofa, TV, and an open fire, whilst a set of doors from here lead through to the second lounge: a cosy space with another open fire, armchairs, and a leather sofa. A games room is another excellent space to spend time after a busy day and offers a pool table which will no doubt attract more competitive guests in the evenings. The cottage’s kitchen/diner, meanwhile, is a generously-sized and well-equipped room where guests will find everything they need to make themselves at home including an AGA oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, and washing machine. A convenient cloakroom with WC can also be found on the ground floor, whilst the bathroom with its shower-over ¾-sized bath and WC can be found upstairs on the first floor alongside the property’s four bedrooms. All of the bedrooms have been simply and elegantly furnished to create restful retreats with views across the countryside or out to sea, allowing guest to wake up to simply stunning views. The master bedroom is a king-size room which has its own wood burner, in addition to which there are two double rooms and one twin, which like the king-size has a cosy wood burner.

Outside, the property benefits from an attractive lawned garden which is fully enclosed by a wall and a gate. This is an idyllic place to relax and play and is furnished with table and chairs and a BBQ, however guests should be aware that the gate is not secured and there is open access to the clifftop beyond the gate, therefore children should not be left alone in the garden. There is parking for three cars just outside the cottage. Please note that the property is approached via a 1.5 mile long unmade track, and is not suitable for cars with low-ground clearance.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

A very special place! Remote location with challenging 1.5 mile track to property but so worth it! Stunning views. Cosy, quirky cottage...didn't want to leave!

Lovely cottage in a beautifully remote area. If going in winter make sure you have a car suited for a bumpy road and deep puddles. Beds are a bit uncomfortable but other than that it was lovely. Amazing walking right on your doorstep!

This holiday cottage is absolutely perfect and I couldn't recommend it more. The location is spectacular with incredible views in every angle. The cottage itself is very comfortable and very cosy with the open fires in multiple rooms.

It's very difficult to think of anything we weren't happy with. It was a delight to be able to stay in No 2 Coastguard Cottages.

Beautiful cosy cottage in cliff top position, amazing and unsurpassed views across the coastline. You will have a wonderful stay whatever the weather. The quiet and isolation are very special in a rental property so whether you want to travel or stay put this will meet your requirements. A wonderful dreamy spot and very clean and comfortable Cottage - a retreat from it all - no need for paintings on the walls here - the views say it all - cannot wait to return - suggest to take sturdy boots if walking as the track is stony (our Skoda Fabia made it fine - just need to go slow).

We had a wonderful week in August at the lovely spacious cottage. Perfect for families with dogs. The views are absolutely stunning and the cottage with its Aga very cosy. Only point to note as in other reviews is the one track leading to the cottage is very pot holed, so you do really need a raised car or 4 x 4 vehicle.

Addition of garden loungers would be a benefit. Overall comfortable with excellent views. Dirt track road to property is worthy of a 4 x 4.

Fabulous location. A real get away from it all the only noise is the sky larks singing

Beautiful views, spacious property but very remote and a little old fashioned and tatty in places. The 1.5 mile lane is VERY bumpy and even in our 4x4, we could only do 5 miles per hour down it.
