Charming thatched cottage in an attractive rural setting a short drive from the coast, boasting small attractive coves and close proximity to one of Britain's most famous Victorian health resorts, Ventnor.

This lovely, Grade II listed thatched cottage dates back to the 17th century. It’s situated close to the small village of Whitwell, on the south east of the island, and is famous for having the oldest pub on the island where you can enjoy homemade fare and real ales. This whole region is a wonderful walking area with a network of footpaths and trails that extend across the nearby downs to the coast. It’s only a short drive to the coast with its small attractive coves, botanical gardens and seaside resort of Ventnor. Ventnor itself has a lovely beach, perfect for paddling, swimming and fishing. There is an attractive promenade with several places to eat, and a quay where small fishing boats come in laden with their catch of the day to sell. Further along, the coast brings you to the larger sandy beaches of Shanklin and Sandown.

Entering the cottage on the ground floor you’ll find a kitchen/diner with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and pine table and chairs; an attractive lounge with plenty of seating and TV/DVD, a tiled bathroom with a hand held shower over the bath and WC; and a French door opening onto the pretty garden beyond. A cottage style staircase winds up from this room to four charming bedrooms - two lovely double bedrooms and two single bedrooms plus a compact shower room with shower and WC. Carefully furnished offering attractive accommodation for its guests, the cottage has retained several of its original features including beamed ceilings, a flagstone floor in the kitchen, and lovely wooden floors upstairs.

Outside there is a delightful garden with large lawn and garden room for visitors to relax and unwind. Garden furniture is provided so that al fresco dining can be enjoyed in the sunshine. The garden is fenced and gated with a stream meandering just beyond. There is off-road parking to the side of the cottage for one to two cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Lovely, old world thatched cottage in central position on island. Comfortable, well furnished and equipped. Lovely secure garden for dogs. Unfortunately on a main road so a lot of traffic noise although this did ease off by 11pm so ok for sleeping. Enjoyed our week there very much but struggled with the shower.

Nicely located in the village of Whitwell. The white Horse is a fabulous eatery. The cottage was great, not sue it would be big enough for 6 adults. We were only three. Niche garden to sit in. Only annoyance was the traffic noise. SupErb place for walkers, so many well signed footpaths nearby.

Cottage upstairs toilet and shower cannot support anybody over 5'7'' and the traffic noise is annoying. In warm weather the upstairs is airless and hot.

Enclosed garden. Off road parking. Warm, cosy, Spotlessly clean. 4 good size bedrooms. nice lounge. 300 yards from an excellent pub selling great quality affordable food. less than a mile from some beautiful walks. 5 minutes to Godshill. Okay, so its not 100% modern but that's the charm, whats not to like?

Lovely and quirky old cottage with good sized garden. Could do with WiFi to look up local events etc. A bit difficult getting estate car on drive as busy road/parked cars opposite. Pub a couple of mins walk serves excellent food. A comfortable and excellent stay.

The thick walls of this lovely old barn kept us cool during a hot spell. The beds are moderately comfortable. An enclosed, windowed lean-to is a great place for drying beach towels overnight. The narrow old stairs are not for anyone unsteady!

This little cottage is quite comfortable and cosy with wooden beams in the rooms. Plenty of room with two double bedrooms and two singles. The garden is pretty with nice views and a little stream at the bottom.
