Property code: IC160

One of two cottages on a farm within the attractive rural hamlet of Alverstone. The property is less than three miles from the beach, and is excellently located for exploring the Island.

This charming cottage is located on a small 12 acre farm within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s home to horses, cows and a few free-range chickens, while the pond on site attracts ducks, moorhens, and the occasional heron. The lovely sandy beaches of Sandown are nearby, as is dog friendly Yaverland beach. The area is excellent for walking, with footpaths leading up onto the downs and towards the coast. Fishing ponds and bird and red squirrel watching are available in the water meadows, while a cycle track gives access to large parts of the island along the old railway tracks.

The cottage is a sympathetic barn conversion, offering attractive and comfortable accommodation for small families. It boasts underfloor heating and solar powered hot water. The compact kitchen is well-equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with freezer section, and a dishwasher, while a washing machine and tumble dryer are also available in the cottage. There’s a spacious and light open-plan lounge/diner which extends the width of the cottage, with patio doors opening onto the courtyard garden. Here you can relax in front of the wood burning stove on the comfortable sofa, perhaps watching the Smart TV. Beside the window is a pleasant dining area. Also on the ground floor is a wet room with shower and WC, while upstairs there’s a bathroom with bath, overhead shower, and WC. Also upstairs are two attractive bedrooms which enjoy stunning rural views - one spacious double and a cosy twin.

Enjoy the sunshine in the attractive enclosed courtyard, which has views over the paddocks to the pond. Garden furniture and a BBQ are provided so that meals can be enjoyed al fresco. Parking is available to the rear of the cottage, and there’s also space to store bicycles. There’s also access to a shared outbuilding beside the cottage which has a freezer.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

This is an extremely well equipped and comfortable cottage situated in a beautiful area. Horses and chickens to see on the farm, walks and cycle tracks from the door and a range of sandy beaches (and a supermarket!) within a 10 min drive. We'll be back!

Delightful property in a fantastic location with numerous walks from the front door. The short walk to the red squirrel hide is a must. The property was spotless and the owners were extremely attentive and keen to provide everything that you could want. Would wholeheartedly recommend to friends and family.

Excellent barn conversion in a peaceful location with the bonus of a nature reserve nearby (you can watch red squirrels from a hide). The owners were very friendly, welcoming and helpful, and the welcome pack of homemade cake, milk, and eggs from the chickens were devoured with gusto!

We looked at many places on the Island before choosing Mead Cottages and our choice proved to be an excellent one! Comfortable accommodation on a lively farm with all you could want for - even red squirrels a delightful 10 minute walk away. We went before breakfast!
