Traditional Purbeck cottage, offering thoughtfully maintained period-style accommodation for up to nine, set within almost one acre of attractive grounds, located in the Dorset village of Worth Matravers.

Located just a mile north of Dorset’s Jurassic coast and four miles south of Corfe Castle, the village of Worth Matravers is a splendid location for enjoying all that the Isle of Purbeck peninsula has to offer. In the village itself, and within walking distance of the cottage, a delightful tearoom is a great place to enjoy afternoon tea and is even open for evening meals on Saturday nights. The village pub, meanwhile, retains its original charm and has a pretty beer garden from where visitors can enjoy views towards the sea. To the east of the property, within a ten-minute drive, the seaside town of Swanage offers a sandy beach with a Victorian pier where visitors can hire deckchairs and enjoy ice creams from one of the sea-front shops.

It is hard to imagine a property which better represents most people’s idea of a picture-perfect country cottage, and the owners have carefully preserved many of the original features to retain that charming cottage-feel. This sympathetic sense of style is clearly in evidence in the lounge, an attractive room with wooden floors, inviting sofas, a warming wood burner, and a beamed ceiling, as well as a TV/DVD. The kitchen/diner too has been thoughtfully finished with a tiled floor, farmhouse table, and an excellent range of equipment including an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher, whilst the freezer, a second fridge, and a washing machine can be found tucked away in a separate utility room. The master king-size bedroom can also be found on the ground floor, and has been finished to a very high standard, with a beamed apex ceiling, oak floorboards, a seating area with a sofa and its own TV, and even a wood burner, all of which help to create a retreat-like feel to this beautiful space. Two shower rooms, each with a shower and WC can also be found on the ground floor, whilst a door from the kitchen opens onto traditional cottage stairs leading up to the three remaining bedrooms. The first of these is another king-size room, again boasting its own seating area with a sofa, armchair, and a TV. The third bedroom is a smaller-sized, yet nonetheless delightful double room, whilst the fourth is a pretty twin room.

The property enjoys a fantastic amount of outside space, with generously-sized terrace patio with garden furniture and a BBQ area next to the cottage, beyond which steps lead to an impressively large lawn, where children can happily play to their heart’s content. A separate walled courtyard can also be found alongside the cottage. There is parking for two to three cars available on the driveway.

Good location for walking along the coast, which is stunning. The Square and Compass is just a few yards away with Swanage nearby. Lovely big garden for play.

Very comfortable cottage, beams, log burner etc Our party comprised of two couples so plenty of room. Zoe, the housekeeper, was very friendly and helpful. Perfectly situated for country and coastal walks, and very good ale at The Square and Compass just across the road.

The stairs are narrow and steep so might not be suitable for a multi generation group. Otherwise a lovely cottage in a super location. Third double bedroom rather small.

Nice well equiped cottage in great location, with lots of walking around the area. Pub across the road great for a lazy drink and pasty outside after a walk. Worth Matravers is a beautiful village. Corfe Castle and Swanage really handy.

Lovely cosy cottage with an amazing outdoor space so great for wet days and sunny days. Great base for walking in the purbecks or just chilling out. We enjoyed the Sunday afternoon music from the pub from the privacy of our own garden.

We know the area well, so knew that Worth Cottage would be ideal for us. Its location cannot be beaten both for walks and the pub. Zoe was super helpful and had left the house spotless, even making up the fire for us and leaving loads of logs. It was very cosy and warm.

The most perfect Dorset cottage in the best location. It was in the most idyllic setting and a stones throw from the famous Square and Compass. Comfortable accommodation and a well equipped kitchen. Well worth a visit!

This is a good house for a large group. Its proximity to local walks and particularly to the Square & Compass pub - 50 yards and a downhill return - was great. We have been coming to Worth Matravers every November and we had another lovely visit.

We had a fantastic holiday. The weather was kind to us - kinder than we might reasonably have expected - and so we were able to get out and enjoy the coast and countryside.

Beautiful cottage in idyllic surrounding area. Great for a family get together. Walk in the Purbeck's followed by a cream tea or a pint at the local pub, then back to the cottage to put your feet up in-front of the fire. Perfect.

Worth Cottage was excellent with very good facilities. Bedrooms were well-appointed and comfortable. The location was very good and close to Swanage and Corfe Castle. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery and cutlery and the showers were superb. All in all, we had an excellent week - highly recommended.

We loved Worth Cottage and by chance its location was directly opposite the Square & Compass, which was partly the reason for our visit.

Despite a very wet week we all had a most enjoyable time. The grandchildren loved the duck pond and duckingham palace... Their sleeping quarters. Outside tables and chairs looked most inviting another year with more sun maybe!
