Set within the fringes of Longtown at the foot of the Black Mountains within the national park, this detached barn is just perfect for family and friends to get together whatever the time of year.

Well served with 40 acres of farmland to explore, try fly fishing with access to the river with full fishing rights, walking distance to the village centre renowned for its village store and 12th century Norman Castle. Offering some of the best walking within the area from your doorstep, explore the Black Mountains and join the Offa’s Dyke pathway which takes you deeper into the countryside. Ideal for touring the market town of Abergavenny, with regular farmers market and food festival. The property owner's Clarins Gold Salon in Abergavenny also offers a special 10% discount off beauty treatments for ladies staying at Ferns Barn. The lovely town of Crickhowell is also nearby, nestled within the Usk Valley and Hay-on-Wye with an eclectic range of book shops all celebrating the book festivals throughout the year. Make the most of the Herefordshire countryside and follow the Great Cider Route or join in the many local produce festivals.

Drive up to the property and take in the views across the valley to the Black Mountains. Step inside and leave your walking boots in the utility room a great base for a muddy dog, with washing machine and tumble dryer. Step back into the hallway with white washed stone wall and flagstone floors into the lounge, the exposed A-frame with fully glazed windows either side of the barn enable you to make the most of the mountains whatever the time of day, the original features have been sympathetically restored and mix well with the contemporary furnishings, sit back on the corner sofa and catch up with friends in front of the wood burner, there is Sky TV just perfect for a good film. The architectural style of the barn leads to an open-plan kitchen, take the steps down and you will find a kitchen that will test the best of chefs, well-equipped with electric rangemaster oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, there is a table and chairs that extends to offer seating for six guests. So, when the day is done continue across the lounge where you will find a king-size bedroom where you can sit back and enjoy the SkyTV and views of the mountains, there is an en-suite shower room with shower and WC. There is a bathroom with free standing bath, separate shower and WC on the ground floor. Climb the wooden stairs within the lounge where you will find a twin bedroom with exposed beams, TV and en-suite shower room with shower and WC. A further wooden staircase from the hallway gives access to a double bedroom with TV.

Step outside and enjoy breakfast on the patio, with a garden table and chairs and BBQ just perfect for dining alfresco. The views across to the Black Mountains will take your breath away whatever the time of year, the garden is enclosed with gated access to the farmland, river and waymarked pathways. There is off-road private parking for three cars.

A wonderful place to stay. The barn is very comfortable, warm and very well equipped. There is a village shop a short walk away and the surrounding countryside is breathtaking. We would be keen to go back for a longer stay. Very highly recommended.

Ferns Barn is in a wonderful location- Longtown is right in the middle of some lovely towns and in every direction is a beautiful walk. Fern's Barn is a perfect location with amazing views of the Black Mountains. The layout of the barn conversion is good, with an impressive lounge with great communal sofas. However for the price the facilities are lacking. There is not really any dining table to comfortably seat more than 3 people. Fabulous week in a fantastic property with amazing views. Little off the beaten track which made it very quiet. Set in a lovely small village with plenty of walks on the doorstep and amazing views. Not all walks suitable if you have a large dog due to number of stiles. The property has everything in terms of kitchen and utility appliances. Excellent sky package.
