Property code: NCC56

Nestled within the pretty hamlet of Little Thornage, which feels straight out of a storybook, this charming and striking cottage retains many original features for an authentic countryside escape.

This delightful cottage lies just 1 mile from the popular yet idyllic town of Holt, in the rolling hills and open spaces of North Norfolk’s famous countryside. Little Thornage is one of the area’s most unspoilt locations, with the pub and water mill at Letheringsett (both within walking distance) the closest amenities. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the disused railway line to Holt, where you will find an abundance of independent shops, galleries, and cafes, or head 4 miles to nearby Weybourne and relax on its pebbled beach.

Enter the cottage through the side door and you will find yourself in the utility room, which houses a washing machine and dishwasher. Step into the adjoining kitchen, which still has the butcher’s hook from when the village farmer would sell his home-reared meat from here. The kitchen is otherwise modern, with a larder fridge/freezer, electric oven and microwave. From here, the property naturally draws you towards the inglenook open fire in the living room, which was uncovered during a previous renovation to the owners’ delight; there is now a wood burner in situ, perfect for those cool winter nights in front of the TV. Also on the ground floor is a twin bedroom and a shower room. Heading up the cottage style stairs, hidden behind an original ledge and brace door in the lounge, you will find yourself in the spacious first-floor suite, complete with king-size bed and a bathroom. There is also a second lounge area boasting views over the river meadows.

Outside, the cottage has delightful gardens to the front and rear. In the rear, relax in the south-facing enclosed lawns and breathe in the fresh country air. The front is where you will find parking for one car (or two smaller cars), beside a divine scented rosebed.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 1 king-size bedroom, 1 twin
  • 1 bathroom

  • Phone reception is only available in parts of the cottage
  • Cottage style steep winder stairs to first floor
  • Parking for 1 car or 2 small cars in front garden

Very small cottage with low ceilings. Shower is tiny too. Not really suitable for larger or tall adults. There were just 2 of us and would feel cramped for 4 in my opinion. Great to see a properly enclosed rear garden Lovely walk from the cottage across the fields and old railway line into Holt.

Cosy, comfortable cottage, full of character. Very steep stairs and low ceilings/doorways make it more suitable for smaller people. We loved the stable doors and the furniture. A very peaceful getaway.

A lovely cottage in a very peaceful location however there are high steps in/ out of the cottage and the shower which are not suitable for anyone with limited mobility. This was not mentioned in the cottage overview. Despite this, had we not had my 88 year old mother with us, it would have been a superb base for us.

Delightful cottage in a peaceful hamlet. Lovely walks from the door to the Ford at the end of the lane. Extensive walks over fields and through woods without taking the car out. South facing garden with views. Lovely for morning coffee and early evening gin and tonic. Cosy living room, very snug and warm. Stairs not for the faint hearted.

Appreciated the nice bed linen and good towels. Cottage is really cute with a lovely log burner. Walk to the pub. Tight parking ...but cottages this old are not made for modern cars so not a criticism just a fact.

We had a lovely week at Smith's Cottage. The location and walks on your doorstep were perfect for us and our dog. We slept downstairs rather than in the beautiful bed upstairs as although fit and healthy, the steep stairs and low beams would be an issue. The garden isRead more fully enclosed, however, if you have a dog that is an escape artist the low picket fence might be a problem, no issue for us. Hide
