A bespoke bolthole for two guests, this property offers a rejuvenating break in an Elizabethan manor house. Looking out over extensive grounds and with a network of walks nearby, spend your days exploring near and far.

Just a few miles from the Coast-to-Coast walk and with a variety of natural playgrounds to explore, wanderers will find plenty of space to roam. Dipping in and out of the wilderness, there are also a number of local conveniences nearby. Less than half a mile away, the Black Bull Inn offers a warm welcome and hot food, as does the Shoulder of Mutton, only 1.5 miles away. 10 miles from Darlington and 13.5 from the market town of Northallerton, a wealth of shops, restaurants and cafes are at your fingertips. Treat yourself to a little souvenir or spot of window shopping, before returning to your home-from-home.

Heading up the private stairway, your holiday begins. First coming to the landing, you can leave your shoes and worries behind and take in the tasteful antiques. With an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, the space enjoys a homely feel and you can waste no time settling into the plump sofa or grand armchair. To make your arrival extra special, a thoughtful welcome hamper is laid out full of home-baked treats – the perfect accompaniment to a Yorkshire brew. If you're a foodie, you'll love the contemporary kitchen. A stylish design offering plenty of space to create, everything you need for hearty meals at home has been provided, including a hob, oven, fridge/freezer and microwave. For extra ambience, light up the wood burner and cuddle up as heat radiates around the room. Pour through the pages of a good book or flick through the TV channels for an evening of light entertainment. When day turns to night, the master bedroom is ready and waiting with an irresistible super-king-size bed that can be separated into two singles upon request at the point of booking. Next door, the gorgeous bathroom with fabulous antique roll-top bath offers a chance to soak your muscles before hopping into bed and snuggling under the duvet.

The property's outside space has plenty of appeal. Enjoy direct access to spacious grounds with lawn, patio area, summerhouse and hard-surface tennis court perfect for a game or two (or three). Bike storage is available, and there is also a BBQ waiting to be fired up for flamed grilled feasts on hazy summer eves.

Butler's Retreat is set in the picturesque village of Moulton. The hosts warmly greeted us, as well as their dog. There were some tasty snacks, including biscuits & crisps & wine, as well as a small jug of milk in the accommodation to enable us to immediately settle in. Open lounge & kitchen area was spacious with a smart TV & useful utensils. The Read morebedroom was also spacious & the single beds we had requested were very comfortable. A very scenic & peaceful location to explore Yorkshire from! Hide

This is a lovely apartment in a historic building. The bed was large (6ft) and comfortable (difficult to find in a rental). The kitchen was well equipped and sofas comfortable. The bath was large as well. There isn't a built in shower but a shower attachment to put on the taps is provided so you can rinse your hair.

The cottage was very nice and rather cool inside during the hight temperatures we had during our stay. It has a king sised bed which was very comfortable. There also is a garden we could use to walk, sit or even barbecue.
