Helmsley, located just a couple of miles from the property, is one of the prettiest towns in Yorkshire and lies just on the outskirts of the glorious North York Moors. The wonderful heather-covered moors offer plenty of opportunities for breathtaking walks and bike rides, stretching out for some 600 square miles. You could also explore the Howardian Hills (5 miles), an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, to the south. Helmsley and the delightful neighbouring town of Pickering offer a range of lovely pubs, restaurants and independent shops. Local attractions include Castle Howard (13.5 miles), Duncombe Park (1.5 miles), Nunnington Hall and Rievaulx Terrace (3 miles). The historic city of York (24.5 miles), home of York Minster, Jorvik, the Shambles and Castle Museum, is also within easy reach.

This breathtaking property has been lovingly converted from a 19th-century church which was originally designed by Temple Lushington Moore, one of the Gothic Revival's greatest architects. It retains many unique features including hand-painted ceiling arches, original pews, fonts and stained-glass windows. The lounge/diner is an atmospheric space, but also has plenty of comfortable seating, a charming dining area and more modern facilities including a TV with Netflix and a Bluetooth speaker. The main king-size bedroom is to be found in the original part of the building. Heading past the feature stone wall, you will move into the new extension where you will find the attractively designed kitchen/diner, which has a lovely dining area and is fully equipped with everything you may need. Exploring further, there's a second lounge with a double sofa bed, as well as a family bathroom complete with shower over the bath and a WC. There's also a separate wet room, and underfloor heating can be enjoyed throughout the extension.

Stepping outside, you can relax in the private garden with its terrace, heather garden and a selection of outdoor furniture. This is an ideal spot for dining al fresco while admiring the stunning North York Moors.

Wonderful location, beautiful surroundings, the extension is very modern and the Church itself still very much retains its original character, especially the stained glass windows. Our stay at St Aidens was all we hoped for and more. The photos don't do justice of how beautiful the building is. It was impeccably clean and there was thought put into our stay; a free basket of fire wood, milk and water in the fridge, everything you would need in the kitchen, handmade chocolates for us and a small welcome hamper for our dogs. The cottage a converted church has a charm of its own . Not much natural light in longe area but plenty of lighting available. There are 2 levels up to bedroom and another level at the side of the bed . These need careful navigation at night .
