Formerly the village tailor’s, this detached Grade II-listed stone cottage offers period features and spacious accommodation perfect for two couples or a small group of friends looking for a classic Yorkshire Dales break, a haven for walkers.

Situated less than a mile from the picture-postcard village of Dent, you can enjoy cosy pubs and countryside walks along the Dales Way from your doorstep. Dent station, the UK’s highest mainland train station is less than 5 miles away while in Sedburgh (6 miles), you’ll discover a handsome market town with great cafes, restaurants and bookshops. There are endless opportunities for exploring the countryside within the surrounding Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Stepping in to the detached 17th-century cottage, you’ll discover a wealth of character features including stone flooring, beamed ceilings and window seats. Downstairs is a dining room with a table comfortably seating four. Walk through to the living room, where you can find comfy seating facing towards an inviting open fire and a TV. Underfloor heating adds to the cosiness. The contemporary kitchen is well-equipped with an oven, fridge, microwave and induction hob, with plenty of space for group cooking. In the former stable, you’ll find a fridge/freezer, a handy washing machine and plenty of room to store muddy boots and bikes after a day on the Dales. There is also a separate WC on this floor. Climb the stairs to find another living room with a TV and space to relax. The property’s two bedrooms comprise a double and a twin, both with ample storage and character features including original fireplaces. The bathroom is also upstairs and is arranged so you can enjoy a soak while taking in the Dales views. There is also a separate walk-in shower unit.

Outside is a patio and grassed area with views over fields that provided the setting for a Cravendale milk advert. A table, chairs and BBQ allow you to make the most of the outside space, while a gate at the bottom of the garden leads directly to a riverside walk along the Dales Way.

The cottage is in an excellent location for walks and country drives. Full marks to The owners who are very knowledgeable about the location. We walked into the village several times along the road which is about a mile and made full use of the tea shops who are very welcoming and do excellent cake. What a lovely cottage, the views from the garden are marvellous, swallows and house martins abound and peace and quiet. The cottage itself was comfortable and cool when the weather is warm outside. Would recommend it.

We really enjoyed our stay at Three Roods Cottage. Margaret and John gave us a warm welcome and made sure that we had everything we needed. The cottage has been very thoughtfully renovated and is a cosy, comfortable place to stay in beautiful Dentdale. Its a great base to explore the surrounding area.

After choosing this spot on the spur of the moment it has been by far one of the best locations and venues we have stayed at. We loved the cottage and the care with which it has been restored and decorated/furnished. We particularly enjoyed the beautiful 180 degree panorama from the patio and watching the social life of the local wildlife and livestock. The cottage is well placed for walkers. This is a truly magical spot! The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The most fabulous week away. Margaret and John were wonderful hosts and have restored Three Roods to the most amazing standard. Open lit fires, the cosiest of sitting rooms. We absolutely loved staying in John's cottage. The uninterrupted views across the valley from the garden are breathtaking, so much wildlife. The perfect rural retreat. The cottage itself is beautiful with every aspect considered. The view is gorgeous, and Margaret and John provide a really warm welcome.
