This beautiful railway carriage has been in the same family for generations and having been lovingly renovated, fitted and furnished, now provides a truly unique and fabulously comfortable couples retreat.

Three Hares Carriage is in 16 acres of natural rural countryside on the edge of the Haldon Hills, gateway to the Teign Valley and Dartmoor, yet is just three miles from the cathedral city of Exeter and its wide range of amenities, including restaurants, shops and bars. The property is ideally located for exploring Dartmoor National Park and the Devon coast, including the English Riviera at Torbay and the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. For those wanting to venture further afield, there are fast road links to the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the historic naval city of Plymouth. Other local attractions include a number of National Trust properties and Powderham Castle. Look out for many species of wildlife that the rewilding of the land is attracting

Step inside this delightful property, built around a Victorian railway carriage which has been in the owner’s family for over a hundred years and has been carefully restored with many original features, and you will find yourself in a spacious hallway running the length of the carriage. The hall opens to an adorable dual-aspect kitchen/diner. This compact yet perfectly-appointed area boasts a gorgeous little breakfast bar/dining area, providing all the essentials including a combi microwave oven, electric hob and a fridge with an ice compartment. From here the hall leads to the pretty bedroom with a double bed and lovely antique furniture, and then a fabulous contemporary yet in-keeping shower room with shower and WC. Finally, there is the sitting area, a cosy space with a comfortable sofa and chair, Smart TV and DAB/CD player with Bluetooth. French doors from the sitting area give access to a large covered veranda with seating, where you can enjoy panoramic views across the countryside to Exeter in the distance.  This property is run on 100% renewable energy and the materials used in the renovation and conversion were sourced locally.  Eco friendly products are used and in the last three years 4500 native trees have been planted on the site which is managed for wildlife, and guests can offset carbon by planting a tree during their stay.

There is also a small garden area with a charcoal BBQ. During your stay you are welcome to stroll around 16 acres of private grounds including a secluded valley and newly planted woodland, home to a wealth of wildlife. Private off-road parking is located directly outside the property and there is also a useful utility shed with a washer/dryer and secure bicycle storage.  Within the grounds is a fire pit and bench to enjoy the evening peace

Everything we expected and more. The carriage had been lovingly restored and had a lot of nice touches within the carriage. Set in beautiful rewilded land that we were allowed to wonder round and discover. Just perfect for us and well located for both visiting the seaside, pretty villages and Dartmoor, so 5 out of 5 for sure.

We stayed in the carriage at the start of August. The carriage is beautifully renovated and spacious enough for two people. The view from the carriage is stunning and as its in 16 acres of ground it is quiet and peaceful. The owners left us some very welcome goodies including milk when we first arrived which we were very grateful for. They also gavRead moree us a guided tour of the site which was very interesting. Great reasons for the renovation project and a fantastic outcome. Lack of pavements along the main road and not notified as such, disappointed us.

We enjoyed staying at the Three Hares Carriage very much. It's not big but living in an historical train carriage was amazing. There is easy parking (I refuse to stay anywhere this is not the case) and superb views across the Devon countryside including 2 private fields that we had access to with a picnic spot.
