A three-bedroom waterside retreat perfect for families and friends seeking a tranquil base from which to explore the outdoor activities on offer in the Scottish Highlands.

Enjoying a peaceful location on the banks of Loch Broom, this three-bedroom cottage is set on a secluded stretch of the shores of the loch, with wonderful views across the water and to the mountains beyond. Pull on your wellies for a walk along the shoreline spotting otters, seals and, during the summer months, the occasional porpoise. Launch your canoe from the beach in front of the cottage, or keep your feet dry with a hike up the hill behind the cottage for views across Ullapool and the Summer Isles. Visit the outdoor paradise of Ullapool (7miles) for an exhilarating speedboat trip across the waters. Cross the Victorian suspension bridge across Corrieshalloch Gorge (7 miles) and follow the woodland trails to see the River Droma crash through the gorge in a series of stunning cascades.

Surrounded by tall trees and fronting onto the shores of Loch Broom, you will be struck by the peace and tranquillity of your rural getaway's location from the moment you step out of your car. Your spacious cottage offers light and airy accommodation over one floor with most rooms enjoying views across the loch and the rugged mountainside of Beinn Dearg. Enter your holiday cottage and step into the cosy living room where you can curl up on the comfy sofas with a good novel from the bookshelf or watch a family film on the TV. On cooler evenings, watch the flames flicker in the open fire, creating a wonderful atmosphere on chillier nights. An archway leads through to the sunroom where snug chairs are arranged to make the most of the impressive views across the water and beyond. Your contemporary kitchen/diner is a generous room where you can gather around the dining table over a hearty breakfast and make plans for your day. You have everything you need for a home-from-home stay in the well-appointed kitchen including an electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher with a washing machine and tumble dryer provided in the handy utility room. When it's time for slumber, head down the corridor to the three comfortable bedrooms. A double and two twin bedrooms are dressed in cosy duvets with soft throws and co-ordinating cushions, all with ample storage space for your belongings. Before bed enjoy a soak in the bathroom or freshen up in the shower room, both rooms with WC.

Outside, breakfast on the patio table as the waves lap against the loch and eagles cry overhead or find your favourite spot to sit on the lawn and soak up the mountain air. As the sun sets, light a fire in the stone fire pit and toast marshmallows while you tell campfire tales. Step down to the shoreline and dip your toes for a paddle or enjoy a wild swim in its clear waters. Launch your canoe from the beach or spend the afternoon fishing on the loch. The land surrounding the cottage has woodland perfect for den-building and minibeasts walks. There is parking for three cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

The cottage was clean & comfortable - the sun room was just perfect for wildlife spotting & generally watching the world go by. The kitchen was well equipped, although had there been six of us a few more table mats & cereal bowls would have been needed, no problem for just three though.

This was or second visit this year and we had a wonderful, relaxing time. The cottage is extremely comfortable, clean and spacious. The newly refurbished, very well appointed kitchen, has all the storage, for your goodies, and equipment that you could ever need to cook up a storm after a day out and about. Whether you are looking for an active holiRead moreday or just want to relax and watch the world go by, this is the place to be. The sunroom is, without a doubt, the jewel in the crown. With a 180 degree vista you can watch seals, porpoises, herons and otters all enjoy Lochbroom. They seem to favour a spot directly in front of the cottage just beyond the green bouy and between the pink bouys. If its a touch chilly, light the coal fire, pour a glass of something nice and watch the ever changing scene across Lochbroom. There are lots of beautiful places for walkers to explore and also brilliant beaches to enjoy. Gruinard Bay is our favourite although, venture a bit further, and the beach at Durness is stunning Corrishalloch Gorge will take your breath away. Ullapool itself is a delight to explore. There are many craft shops, cafes and restaurants. We had a fabulous meal at the Arch Hotel. The Ullapool Smokehouse is well worth a visit for smoked salmon and a good selection of smoked cheeses etc. and if you like ice cream, Gelato Ullapool on West Argyle Street is a must. Nearer to the cottage and worth a visit is Clachan Church which the Local Community bought and are in the process of raising funds for the restoration works. It is open for a very limited time on certain days of the week so check before you go. Hide

2 Letters is a lovely house in an idyllic setting with stunning scenery whatever the weather. The cottage is cosy, well laid and very well equipped. There is a lot of things to do all around from Loch Assynt to Loch Maree and Ullapool is nearby, 20 minutes drive. I will be pleased to come back again.

We loved 2 letters, the view from the conservatory over the loch was so great we never had the TV on! We saw a porpoise and a seal from the window regularly and towards the top of the loch my husband saw an otter. We even had the blow out canoe on the loch a couple of times though it was a bit windy. The house had everything we needed but a bit disRead moreappointed that the bedroom with a view was a twin instead of a double. Hide
