This traditional stone cottage, nestled in the hills of Strontian on the north shore of Loch Sunart, is full of period charm, set by the remote and tranquil waters and countryside of the Ardnamurchan peninsula.

The idyllic stone retreat rests on working farmland, overlooking a bubbling stream at the foot of the garden. Just a 1.5-mile walk is the famed Ariundle Oakwood National Nature Reserve, a haven of stunning wildlife and scenery, while country walks and cycle routes abound from your doorstep and beyond the traditional crofting land. Within 19 miles are a kayaking school, Duart Castle with its haunted dungeons, and opportunities for spotting dolphins, whales and eagles on tours of the waters around Mull.

Inside, find the light and bright refurbished interior, showcasing the country-style features of the cottage. Sink into plentyful soft seating in the lounge, lazing in front of the TV/DVD on a rainy evening. The modern country sunroom gives stunning panoramic views, where you can get lost in a good book or plan the day's activities. Cook a family favourite meal in the country-style kitchen with electric cooker, or get the day started over coffee at the breakfast table. Kick off muddy boots in the handy utility room - with separate WC & WHB, washing machine/dryer  - and soak the day away in the modern family bathroom with shower over bath. Retire to one of two cosy rooms; a double with ambient feature fireplace, or the comfy twin room.

Outside, enjoy a spot of al fresco dining or a drink on the bench, taking in the hillside views from the sunny south-facing garden. Or stroll to the bottom of the lawn where mature greenery and wildlife surround a bubbling brook at the foot of this peaceful retreat.

This was a lovely wee cottage, just outside the village centre. A lovely garden room attached to the side, from which to observe the deer. Very comfortable and well equipped. A great base from which to explore the beautiful surroundings.

Amazing holiday in a comfortable and homely cottage. Deer would visit after 9 pm in the evenings which was truly fantastic. Thank you for a great holiday in a fabulous area.

We had a lovely relaxing break at Braefoot - comfortable, well-equiped and practical cottage with spacious utility area as well as sun lounge. Walks from the door through Ariundle Oakwoods, which can be extended to longer climbs in the surrounding hills. Great area for hill walking and wildlife watching - we climbed Beinn Resipol, Beinn Laga, GarbhRead more Bhein and Beinn Dhomnuill, and feel like we are only just beginning to get to know this beautiful area. Many thanks to the owners and to Denise for a lovely week! Hide

A great property in a great location. Peaceful and pleasant. I personally would have liked wifi, simply to check up on things like the weather and the times of the Mallaig Ferry and information about other places I may have liked to visit.
