  • On the cusp of Ariundle Oakwood National Nature Reserve and acres of rolling countryside
  • Sunny, south-facing rooms with the addition of a modern sunroom
Property code: CA046

This traditional stone cottage, nestled in the hills of Strontian on the north shore of Loch Sunart, is full of period charm, set by the remote and tranquil waters and countryside of the Ardnamurchan peninsula.

The idyllic stone retreat rests on working farmland, overlooking a bubbling stream at the foot of the garden. Just a 1.5-mile walk is the famed Ariundle Oakwood National Nature Reserve, a haven of stunning wildlife and scenery, while country walks and cycle routes abound from your doorstep and beyond the traditional crofting land. Within 19 miles are a kayaking school, Duart Castle with its haunted dungeons, and opportunities for spotting dolphins, whales and eagles on tours of the waters around Mull.

Inside, find the light and bright refurbished interior, showcasing the country-style features of the cottage. Sink into plentyful soft seating in the lounge, lazing in front of the TV/DVD on a rainy evening. The modern country sunroom gives stunning panoramic views, where you can get lost in a good book or plan the day's activities. Cook a family favourite meal in the country-style kitchen with electric cooker, or get the day started over coffee at the breakfast table. Kick off muddy boots in the handy utility room - with separate WC & WHB, washing machine/dryer  - and soak the day away in the modern family bathroom with shower over bath. Retire to one of two cosy rooms; a double with ambient feature fireplace, or the comfy twin room.

Outside, enjoy a spot of al fresco dining or a drink on the bench, taking in the hillside views from the sunny south-facing garden. Or stroll to the bottom of the lawn where mature greenery and wildlife surround a bubbling brook at the foot of this peaceful retreat.

Excellent property & stunning location. Saw lots of wildlife with the highlight being 2 visits to the garden by pine marten. We left jam out daily which they love. It worked as jam was taken every night. Although normally taken after dark we had two daytime visits at 5pm on Thursday and 8.45pm on Saturday. Great viewing from the sun room. We absolutely loved the cottage! It had enough space for four of us and especially for our two young kids to stay indoors and play during one very rainy day. Its immaculately clean. We were not disappointed when we arrived at Braefoot Cottage, exactly as we expected, a lovely cottage set in the most beautiful of surroundings, so peaceful and quiet, just birdsong. The cottage was spotless and everything was easy to find. The deer even made an appearance next door on an evening. The cottage was very comfortably furnished and spotlessly clean - a great deal of care had clearly been taken in preparing it for our arrival. We were particularly impressed with and reassured by the covid awareness and precautions of the manager of the cottage.

Braefoot is a pleasant, cosy cottage, well heated with plenty of hot water for showers when you come in cold and wet, as you probably will. It is very well situated in the lovely village of Strontian, surrounded by glorious scenery. There are a couple of good village shops, if you forget anything you need and the locals are very friendly.
