Charming detached cottage sleeping four, just over a mile from the village of Ardgay. A secluded getaway for friends or family keen to explore this sublime corner of Scotland.

Set on the edge of the Gledfield Estate, this attractive gate lodge is the perfect Sutherland sanctuary for minds weary of the modern world. Secluded in the Strathcarron Glen, you're surrounded by exquisite nature, rare wildlife and superlative local produce. Take a tour of the Glenmorangie Distillery (13 miles), visit magnificent Dunrobin Castle and Gardens (24 miles) and the sublime scenery of Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve (17 miles). Ardgay and Bonar Bridge (2 miles) have post offices, shops and cafes and Ardgay has a railway station with trains to Inverness (28 miles) and up the coast to Wick (74 miles). Offering day trips to Orkney and Skye, Inverness is a magnificent city with a castle and cathedral and some superb independent shops, pubs, galleries, museums and eateries.

Inside the cottage, you'll find a sweet and welcoming ambience. Relax around the glowing open fire in the lounge's leather armchairs and sofa, as you plan your next adventures. Prepare sumptuous local food in the quaint kitchen/diner, with its excellent storage units and streamlined appliances. Soothe tired limbs in a steaming bath and retire for dreamy nights in the comfortable double and twin bedrooms; the textiles and lighting imbue both rooms with a sense of love and soul. There's a pleasing simplicity to the decor and furnishings that's quite an antidote to our usual hurried and cluttered lives.

Outside, take to the garden for a tipple of local whisky or red wine al fresco sunset feasts. The rear of the property is not enclosed, so take care if you've got children. The surrounding woods are a wonderful place to explore. The majestic marvels of Sutherland are waiting.
