This cottage is a haven far away from city worries. Surrounded by the climbs and moors of the wild Strath Oykel, a lush valley area, this is your very own slice of the Highlands.

This cottage sits secluded in miles of open, dramatic countryside. Explore the lengths and curls of the River Oykel, famous for its salmon fishing — you can find it just a few hundred metres away, on the other side of the neighbouring field. Or, the pretty village of Lairg, on the edge of Loch Shin, provides an atmospheric jaunt 13 miles away. Check out the local pub or do a spot of angling, or simply take a stroll around this majestic body of water.

Arrive at the property and you'll be struck by its subtle grandeur. Set back in spacious grounds, it is an inviting way to begin your holiday. Inside, a lovely entrance hall and sets of staircases guide you around the house. You'll soon find your hearty lounge, a gorgeous rustic room set around a wood burner in a period stone fireplace. Your country kitchen is another place to entertain, with a generous family table. Or, you could eat around the magnificent dining table — this room also turns into a games room when you fancy. As if that wasn't enough, there's even an annexe area of the house, with its own kitchen and living rooms, and two twin bedrooms, so a family within your party can enjoy their own privacy. In the main house, four further bedrooms offer restful accommodation with stunning views over the grounds and Highlands.

Outside, the lawn stretches around the property, blending into the surrounding landscape, giving the whole place an atmosphere of tended wilderness. Plus, a play area provides the ideal let-off-steam opportunity for young ones.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

A beautiful well equipped cottage in a very remote location, which would be hard to beat. Sadly it has now been sold, and we understand will no longer be available.

This is a magnificent spacious property, with plenty of room for a large group to stay comfortably. You do need to bring all of your food, as the local shop in Rosehall is currently closed, but the hotel in Rosehall does good meals. There are plenty of good walks along the river and up into the hills, and access to the West Coast is easy, includingRead more the NW Scotland Geopark. Don't miss Knockan Crag, and the delightful tearoom at Elphin. We had a brilliant extended family holiday, and thoroughly recommend this property. Hide
