This aptly named property holds an enviable location in the Scottish Highlands that's simply hard to beat. Whether you're exploring the area on foot or by bike, fishing in one of the sheltered nearby bays or sandcastle building at Scourie Bay (6 miles) you'll feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of daily life making this location ideal for relaxing family get-togethers. There's even fishing for four rods on local mapped hill lochs included, so any anglers among you can try their hand at catching some supper.

Bright and spacious rooms, a woodburner will all be waiting for you when you return from a day out. Both lounges have woodburners so they are ideal to gather around for tea and board games after a day exploring the Highlands. In the kitchen, ample seating at a breakfast bar means someone can join you whilst you cook up a feast and listen to some music on the iPod dock. A double oven and five ring hob, mean there's plenty of room for preparing large meals for the whole family. Tuck in around the table in the stylish dining room, before plonking down for a well-earned night in front of the SkyTV. Alternatively, the sunroom makes the ideal spot for after-dinner drinks overlooking the river. Downstairs, there's also one comfy double and one twin bedroom, one bathroom and a separate WC. Up on the first floor, you'll find a second double, a second twin and two single bedrooms, all beautifully furnished to make your stay a comfortable one. There's also a linen cupboard and two bathrooms, one with a shower.

Stepping outside, the enclosed garden boasts a large grassy lawn and spectacular views. Picnic out here on sunny afternoons and enjoy the sounds of the river running past at the bottom of the garden.

Great house for a big group if you want to be somewhere fairly remote with great access to outdoor activities. Good kitchen for cooking, separate dining room and plenty communal sitting space.

Stayed here many times as it's a good house for family visits. Comfortable and spacious but sadly still lacking WiFi.

Very well equipped house. For the purposes of our party of ten an extra fridge might have helped and as it was a fishing party, letting from Sunday to Sunday would have been an advantage but overall, no complaints at all and we have already booked for next year.

Laxford House was spacious, comfortable, and very well equipped, with nice big beds and a wonderful view down the river towards the sea from several rooms. The sun-room was an especially good spot to watch the light fade over the water of an evening. As we had our dog with us, the enclosed garden was very useful, with the added attraction of accessRead more to the river, and pleasant walks upstream and downstream nearby. We love this area for its wildness and remoteness and enjoyed revisiting beautiful Sandwood Bay (eight-miles return on foot) and walking along the beach at Balnakiel and through the dunes there to Faraid Head. I also made a return visit to Handa Island with its thousands of breeding birds on the Great Stack, and had the best view of puffins yet! We have eaten at the Kylesku Hotel many times over the years and seen some big changes, but it is still a great place to have lunch or supper, right on the water. Hide
