Charming and cheerful inside and out, this single-storey cottage beside the River North Esk is within reach of a range of stunning attractions. Close by is Edzell Castle and Garden (2 miles), perfect for an afternoon picnic after exploring the village. Keen walkers can head to the Cairngorms National Park, where there are trails aplenty, including those around picturesque Loch Lee (16 miles). For sand and sea, drive to St Cyrus (13.5 miles) where there is a National Nature Reserve and beach to discover, and wander among the cliff-side ruins of Dunnottar Castle (24 miles).

 

Three external steps take you to the property's entrance. Step into the hall and leave boots and shoes by the door. The slate floor continues into the bright open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. At one end of the room is the lounge, with a two-seater sofa opposite the TV and DVD, where you can spend a quiet evening in together. At the other end is the kitchen/diner, equipped with an electric cooker, microwave and fridge/freezer, as well as a dining table. Dual aspect windows throughout make the most of the natural light and brighten the rooms. Across the hall is the pretty bedroom, boasting a comfortable king-size bed (which can also be converted into a twin on request), chest of drawers, and a chair. Continue through to the en-suite, which has a shower and WC.

 

Outside the cottage, there is a gravelled area with seating, perfect for an al fresco breakfast or afternoon tea for two. Relax in the fresh air and listen to the sound of the River North Esk as it runs near the property.

Second stay at littlest Gannochy, setting is wonderful with great woodland walks fishing available if wanted not to far from both shopping and beach walks too would recommend 5 stars overall

Beautiful location. Cottage was gorgeous, just the right size for 2 people and their pets. The woods walk is lovely and you can get down to the river esk if you are fit and healthy, it is a steep climb down and up very uneven steps. Chris is very helpful and always on the end of the phone if you have any questions. There was a fresh pint of milk inRead more the fridge when we arrived which was very thoughtful, thank you Chris. We really enjoyed our 7 night stay at the property. Excellent communication with the owner by text when required. Our dog enjoyed the enclosed gravelled yard.

Lovely place in a lovely location. We arrived late after replacing our car headlight bulb in sleeting 1 degree temperatures - the lights and heating were on for us which was very very kind. Loads on your doorstep with the Rocks of solitude walk only a minute or so away and Glen Esk a lovely drive. The DVD player broke and Chris responded immediatelRead morey with a replaceement. Hide

This cottage does not fail to deliver, the location is perfect for peace and quiet and long walks along a stunning river. The owners are lovely and very accommodating. We look forward to returning for a third time

Nice quaint place thats set below the B road, couldnt hear the road noises at all. Good place for taking a dog on a fireworks free getaway. Good walks nearby but limited as no Wi-Fi and weak mobile service for locating other walks nearby. Within driving distance to Edzell, Brechin, Montrose and Dundee, Forfar for doing grocery shopping. Cottage very cosy with almost everything you need and comfy bed and super shower plenty lovely walks with dog and although winter we scored with the weather and saw the Beech Wood at its finest with a carpeting of golden leaves underfoot . lovely cottage a couple of minutes from edzell, stunning setting with wildlife including red squirrels, cottage is small but has everything you need. only sounds at night was wildlife and the local river esk. great courtyard garden is a suntrap.

Lovely and secluded, spotlessly clean with all amenities you would expect. We enjoyed the walk to Edzell every day and the Rock of Solitude Walk. A great location for visiting busier places. We would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world, the garden is lovely to sit and read or just watch the clRead moreouds go by with a cup of tea or glass of wine. This is a beautiful part of Scotland. Lots of places to eat in Edzell and everyone was helpful. Hide

An idyllic spot with the woods, burn and private back yard. It was easy to get to lots of fantastic beaches and castles. I found the bed and chair really comfy. I have a bad back so preferred the firm chair to the sofa. Excellent shower. I was lucky to be there during a heatwave and having an elderly dog it was great to be able to come back to the Read morehouse and choose whether to sit outside or enjoy the relative cool indoors. Later on to be able to wander into the shaded woodland. Hide
