The lounge is a wonderfully cosy room with high vaulted ceilings, comfortable sofas and an original stone feature wall. Throw a log on the wood burner and curl up with a wee dram, watching the TV or simply enjoying the atmosphere. The kitchen is bright and cheerful, equipped with everything you'll need to prepare a sumptuous supper, best enjoyed at the table. The roaring open fire in the bedroom is a real treat, especially when teamed with the king-size bed dressed in crisp linen. You'll feel thoroughly spoilt in the wooden panelled bathroom, which features an irresistible bath for a good long soak.

Outside, the panoramic views of the surrounding grounds are a fitting backdrop for sharing a bottle of wine. Sizzle up something special on the BBQ for dining alfresco, or pack up a picnic and set off to explore. Wonderful stay at Mar Lodge. It was snowing when we arrived and driving up the track through the forest to the house was magic (with a suitable 4WD car ...). Location is secluded and breathtaking, house is pretty and comfy, owners are very welcoming. What to ask for ? We will be back.

If I could stay here all year round I would. Highly recommend this stay for some rest and recuperation or a quiet week away. Great to be able to take the furbaby away too!

Fantastic location, tucked away on the edge of a huge woodland estate, beautiful views, and a great place from which to explore this beautiful part of Scotland. The hosts have obviously given a great deal of thought to kitting out the cottage which has everything you would expect, plus more. Lovely location. Great facilities up to a very good standard. Addition of electric blankets was a bonus at this time of year, plus plentiful supply of logs for the fire. Definitely be back.

It was a magical place to stay for the peacefulness and wildlife. We were lucky enough to have a light snowfall which added another aspect to our stay. Everything you needed, or wanted, was provided, including a lovely large shower. Our two dogs totally enjoyed their first holiday with us. We will try to be back as soon as we can.

No wonder Mar Lodge is practically booked up for 2020 - this is a fantastic cottage! It's surprisingly difficult to find a standalone cottage ideal for 2 people in such a quiet, beautiful and convenient location. We stayed with our two dogs and loved every moment. Wow! The photos do not do this amazing place justice! The owners obviously love and cherish Mar Lodge and also completely understand what self catering means. The quality of all the contents is more in keeping with a family home instead of a holiday let, and this made the experience even more special. If you are seeking amazing views, far from the Read morenoise and bustle of everyday life, then this is the place for you. The wildlife visitors to the garden on a daily basis was a highlight too. Tesco delivers, and did an amazing job of finding us down the maze of untarmaced tracks. The walks here are fab too: you don't need to travel miles into the Cairngorms when there are breathtaking views nearby. And without another soul to spoil the peace and beauty. The weather was definitely on our side and we spent much time just sitting in the garden. If you are visiting when the weather isn't so favourable, be sure you have indoor destinations planned, or be prepared to sit inside and entertain yourselves! Hide
