Set on the south coast of the beautiful Isle of Harris, this superb property offers spectacular views over the water and has been recently renovated to offer a high standard of accommodation for a family seeking a peaceful retreat in the Outer Hebrides.

This stunningly beautiful island is a walker's paradise, with spectacular views and wildlife to be glimpsed, including red deer and white-tailed eagles. Visit some of the pristine beaches – take a drive to stunning Luskentyre with its white sands and crystal-clear water. A day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St Kilda is a must for wildlife lovers where you can see a huge array of wildlife undisturbed in its natural habitat. Boats sail regularly from Tarbert (10 miles) both to St Kilda and around the island. For those seeking a cultural taste of the island, visit the Harris Gin Distillery, also at Tarbert and sample the local gin and whisky, or watch how traditional Harris tweed is made at Gearrannan Blackhouse Village (56 miles) – a restored crofting village offering a unique insight into the history of the island.

Set in an elevated position overlooking the small bay below, this smart, whitewashed cottage stands prettily on the southern tip of the Lewis and Harris in the hamlet of Manish. Recently renovated, the contemporary interior is stylish and welcoming. At its heart you will find a spacious kitchen/diner – a fabulous space to socialise with a drink and enjoy a meal together. The adjacent lounge is equally stylish yet cosy with a large comfy corner sofa and a multi-fuel stove, perfect for snuggling up in the evening after a day out exploring. Heading upstairs you will discover the three bedrooms – one double, another double with an extra single bed ideal for families, and a single bedroom – all of which are decorated in a tasteful contemporary style with colourful bed linen. In the morning, enjoy an invigorating start to the day in the bright, smart shower room before heading down to breakfast.

Stroll outside to the enclosed, grassy garden and take in the superb views over the water. A small patio area at the side of the house is the perfect spot to sit and relax with a drink or enjoy a BBQ on milder evenings.

This is a gem of a place to stay. The location is idealic it really is picture perfect. The kids loved playing in the garden and by the water. We spent the week walking and exploring the island. We all went home happy and relaxed. We definitely hope to return.

Ian and Liz were amazing and both met us when we arrived and brought goodies for us. The house was wonderful and a comfortable warm house when we returned from long walks. Would highly recommend this house to anyone.

This well equipped cottage has excellent facilities with lovely spacious dining kitchen ideal for relaxing holiday. The enclosed garden was perfect and safe for our dog and the sheep in surrounding areas! The location is remote but well worth the views.

This is a beautiful cottage, tastefully renovated and in a superb, remote location. We loved the ever-changing loch-side scenery visible out of all the windows, and hearing nothing but the sounds of wildlife, waves and weather. The only downside was having to leave after an immensely relaxing week.

Taigh Ailein is very modern, clean, warm and comfortable. We've used cottages in Scotland for the past 15 years and it's as good as any we've stayed at. The location is so beautiful and peaceful, with wildlife all around. We had regular sightings of the local otter from the cottage and lots of bird life including red throated diver, waders and wildRead morefowl. We were made to feel very welcome by Ian and Lizzie, thank you. We would wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Taigh Ailein. Hide

A lovely house, well equiped, and in a beautiful location. You couldn't wish for more. We have been visiting Scotland 2 or 3 times a year for over 35 years and this ranks amongst one of the very best properties we have stayed in.

The cottage is located right on the waterfront with great walks out to the headlands. Inside it is very well decorated with very modern rooms and fittings. The kitchen is large with every need catered for. Perhaps a bit more guidance on local amenities and recycling / rubbish arrangements would be useful but this was only a minor niggle.

Cant think where to start Lovely cottage, immaculate - very well equipped, everything you would need Hosts were 1st class Loved the tranquillity and the fact we were there during lambing season Fantastic that we were cut off from the outside world as there was no WIFI - please keep it that way !! Beaches to die for I WILL be back.
