As a family of 4 (two teenage children) plus 2 dogs we found a haven in the Old Laundry that ticked just about all the boxes. Tricia's welcome cake didn't last long, the only grumble we could muster was that it wasn't automatically replenished when finished! We would have had no qualms over receiving a bill from her at the end of the week for non-sRead moretop Lemon Drizzle Cake, although the waistbands would have been under immense strain. My wife and I were 99% delighted to be without a reliable internet signal (it's amazing how it has almost become one of life's necessities), the teenagers less so, but a trip back to the "good old days" where we entertained ourselves, enjoyed the great outdoors and each other's company where we actually spoke to one another turned out to be a good thing. A valuable lesson for the kids who were the better for it. The dogs loved the open grounds and the burn running through them and were, in the most part, mindful of the beautifully tended gardens - the chase after a mouse through one of the borders was a low point admittedly but a bottle of bubbly as an apology for the understandably irritated gardener seem to help put matters right along with our reassurance that we were as appreciative of her horticultural efforts as she has every right to be, they are a wonderful part of the "Achfary experience". If you like the hustle and bustle of modern day life or you want to at least have it close by in case of any withdrawal then The Old Laundry is not for you. If you want a very comfortably appointed place, almost in the middle of nowhere, to stay for a break away from all that then it is. Hide

If you are looking for a top spec property with doorstep access to some of the most beautiful walks and views in Sutherland then I cannot imagine anywhere else that would exceed the offerings of The Old Laundry. Head out of the front door and you can walk around Loch More, up a steep climb and you have breathtaking views, drop back into the glen anRead mored you are in amongst a variety of lochs, overshadowed by the looming mountains above. From the rear of the property you can head straight up the forestry track and either skirt the foot of Ben Stack to a variety of hill lochs or take the route to the summit. A short drive towards Scourie or the coast past kinlochbervie and you arrive at the tropical beaches, albeit with sea temperatures a tad lower those those of the West Indies that they imitate . As for the property, everything is a cut above the norm and the housekeeper was a surprising but very welcome extra who made sure everything was in order and made up the open fire each day. Loved it and can't wait to come back in warmer seasons to fish all the hill lochs. Hide
