Really well situated in the village and a very comfortable cottage which has been very nicely furnished. Mostly well appointed but some odd things missing - no oven gloves and there isnt a cottage specific handbook so we needed to call for instructions on how to set the heating. Also - if you like to cook, bring your own knives. As with most rentalRead more places the knives are blunt and there arent enough of them. Parking is tricky. A very nice cottage in a lovely location, with a great layout. It would be nice to have a welcome pack with local produce and the mattress in the en-suite bedroom is (for us anyway) too firm to be comfortable. We also suggest that any holiday makers who intend to cook take their own chopping knife as the one in the cottage isn't very good. OtherwisRead moree excellent. The only real negative comment is that the price for a week has rocketed by nearly 20% for next year. This is a little excessive Hide

Hartington is a fantastic base to explore the Derbyshire Dales. The village is picturesque with a surprising selection of shops considering the size. The main thing lacking is basic equipment- no oven gloves, no peeler, no matches for the fire, no welcome guide (e.g with suggested walks, activities etc), no welcome anything (bottle of wine, cake - things weve often had in other cottages). Please be aware that the fire in the living room is not in use. Also the bedroom with the en-suite doesnt have a door and should be advised as its above the living room. I feel not being able to get in the the cottage until after 5pm and out before 10 am isnt great.
