Ashford-on-the-Water is a picture-postcard, popular Derbyshire village, located in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Offering two country pubs and a village shop which has a long tradition of welcoming visitors, serving food and drink. Indulge in the restful surroundings and take a picnic along the banks of the River Wye by the Sheepwash Bridge. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are just a short drive away, meander through the shops and cafes of the pretty market town of Bakewell or simply head up into the Monsal Dale and enjoy the outstanding scenery on foot.

Enter the cottage via the pretty street which leads into the cosy lounge, with a beautiful cottage interior finish and traditional stone fireplace with wood burner, ideal to curl up in front of after a day of hiking. Watch a movie on the Smart TV (with Sky, Netflix and Apple TV), or get stuck into a good book on the window seat. At the rear of the cottage is the kitchen, rustle up a hearty breakfast or evening meal in the electric oven and gas hob, a handy pantry in the hallway has a fridge with ice compartment and microwave, plus space for coats and shoes. Head up the first set of stairs to the double bedroom, another lovely space to relax in with armchair or window seat. Continue up the next set of stairs to the twin bedroom and bathroom which features a shower over the rolled top bath and WC, perfect for a long soak after a long days walking.

Outside is a traditional laundry room accessed via the courtyard having a washing machine and tumble dryer. Bike storage is available in the private lock up. The communal courtyard is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy your morning brew. There is roadside parking, subject to availability.

Beautiful little cottage, perfect for our three night stay in the peaks. It's super cosy, comfortable and was well equipped. The cherry on top was the basket of goodies, they were such a lovely touch and really was such a treat! Such a beautiful village to be in too. What a wonderful cottage! It was perfect for our 3 night stay. Lots of personal and extra touches which very much appreciated! Especially the extras for the girls! We would highly recommend this cottage and will definitely stay here again!

Fantastic stay at The Cotton Reel. We stayed for two nights and managed to take the kids on the walking loop of the Man Tor and also ride the Monsal Trail which are both very nearby (the Monsal Trail) is on the doorstep pretty much. Very cosy cottage which we enjoyed the evenings relaxing by the fire. Children are 11 and 6 and loved the bedroom on Read morethe top floor and big bath! Hide

A small and cosy cottage in a good location for walking and getting o local attractions. An excellent bus service close by. The stairs are very steep to the bedroom and top floor bathroom and might be problematic for some but there is a sturdy rope rail to help. There is a shared courtyard at the back with a utility shed and a bistro table and chaiRead morers for warmer days! We stayed October half term with 2 kids (3 and 6). The place is full of character and very cosy. Ashford on Water itself is also lovely, including the pub. We had a great stay and Dave our host made everything extremely easy to navigate and also made us feel extremely welcome. This cottage is beautiful. It has everything you need for a relaxing getaway. We felt so at home their straight away. The welcome hamper was lovely. We did some great walks around the area. We walked along the Monsal trail into Bakewell and did a walk around the Chatsworth estate upto the aquaduct. We also went to Thornbridge Hall which is in walkiRead moreng distance. Fantastic cottage in great location with everything you could possibly need. The cottage has a really homely feel and was spotlessly clean. We had no problem parking and due to the great location managed not to use the car that often. Will definitely use the cottage again and thank you for the lovely welcome pack.

All the facilities you could ask for in a great location to access this wonderful village and many other Peak District attractions, scenic walks and places of interest. The photos do it justice. Cottage was absolutely clean, warm and well equipped. It has a lovely cosy feel and even with 4 adults we were comfortable. The welcome pack was excellent - a real treat, as were the things left in the cottage eg soap, matches for the fire, board games, etc. So thoughtful. Great location, able to do walks from front door or within 30 mins drive. LoRead morecal pub does great food and the staff are wonderful. We absolutely loved the cottage, the fireplace was especially warming after a long day of walking. Perfectly located for great walks through the peaks and the Monsal trail. Also a lovely walk into Bakewell with plenty of things to do. A lovely village pub as well where the 3 of us were made to feel very welcome. Would 100% recommend this cottage.

What a wonderful cottage. The welcome pack exceeded all expectations and Arthur loved his new toy and treats. The cottage was cosy and warm despite the miserable weather. Everything you need in the kitchen. The stairs are steep but manageable and the bed was lovely and comfortable. Perfect location to walk into Bakewell or on to the Monsal trail.

This cottage was very well decorated and in a nice quiet location. It had everything we needed and enjoyed our stay there. The welcome hamper in the kitchen was a nice surprise!
