Property code: BN163

A literary adventure for two on the edge of the book town of Hay-on-Wye. Cosy up in this contemporary-meets-classic cottage, before heading out to bookshops, cafes, and events in the picturesque Wye Valley.

The granary’s location enjoys the best of both rural and town life. It sits on a working smallholding, where you can meet sheep and enjoy fresh Wye produce. Head off for a countryside walk along the banks of the River Wye, or even a shallow paddle. When you’re ready for some culture, the vibrant literary hub of Hay-on-Wye is less than a mile’s stroll, home of events and hang-outs for wordsmiths. There’s even a 12th-century castle if you fancy taking in some Welsh history.

The property itself is a sweet, traditional stone granary, but renovated in a contemporary country style. Head up a set of external steps to reach the living space: a long open-plan space leading from a comfy, relaxing lounge to a kitchen and dining area. Here you have everything you need to create romantic meals for two, and enjoy them at the dining table with the light of the valley washing through the space. The living area leads into the sleeping area, separated by a curtain, complete with a super-king-size bed. Here, you can unwind in peaceful, romantic surroundings, looking out over the River Wye.

Outside the property, revel in the country air. The balcony faces the fields of this active smallholding and has outdoor furniture so you can enjoy an al fresco drink as the sun sets.

Our stay was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome, with milk, bread and eggs from the farm (including two goose eggs!) already in the loft. It's a great location, about a 10-15 minute walk into the centre of Hay with all its book shops and brilliant locals pub and a great base if you expect to do a lot of hikiRead moreng. Couldn't recommend enough - a particular highlight are the farm's goats who are also v friendly. Hide

We had a great few days at Gardeners Granary. It's very comfortable and well equipped, and ideally placed for walking and touring. Our cordial hosts were always friendly and helpful, and we loved the goose eggs that came with the welcome pack! Their lovely animals were an added bonus. A definite recommendation.

We very much enjoyed our holiday at the cottage. Joe and Jane were lovely hosts. And their goats were adorable. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, and it was walking distance to Hay. We cannot recommend more highly.

The cottage comprised the whole upper floor of a converted barn and proved a superb choice. Situated just outside the town of Hay on Wye, the owners were very friendly and helpful. The cottage has everything you need, including a good kitchen and eating area, great bedroom and a really nice walk in shower room, as well as off road parking. TheRead more owners run a small organic vegetable business on the site and their Anglo Nubian goats and various rare breed birds roaming around were an absolute pleasure. We really enjoyed our week here. Hide
