This stone cottage is perfect for bringing you close to nature and has a choice of beautiful walks straight from the doorstep. Follow the trail up to the Neuadd Reservoirs (2 miles) or head out on the circular walk around Pontsticill Reservoir (3.5 miles). For keen walkers and more experienced hikers, you can also climb Pen y Fan, South Wales’ highest mountain, with the cottage as your starting point. Local attractions include Brecon Mountain Railway (4.5 miles), the ruins of Morlais Castle (5 miles), and the Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery (7.5 miles).
A step at the front door leads you into the entrance hall, where you can leave coats and boots after a day of exploring. Head through to the open plan downstairs kitchen/diner/living with homely kitchen, which comes equipped with a gas oven and hob, microwave, and fridge. Its exposed stone wall is a charming feature, and there’s plenty of worktop space for preparing meals. Within the downstairs living space is also a cosy open-plan lounge/diner, with a dining table to seat four, and two colourful sofas arranged around the fireplace. There’s plenty of entertainment for evenings in together, with TV and DVD for family film nights, and CD for music. Upstairs from the living area are the bedrooms and bathroom, both in the eaves with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. The double is bright and airy, while there is the additional feature of an exposed stone wall in the twin room. A bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC completes the property.
Outside of the cottage is a shared laundry room, where a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board will come in handy for refreshing your clothes after walks around the National Park. The on-site tearoom promises a warm welcome when you’re in need of refreshment, and for those wanting to fish, permits are available for the reservoirs. There is storage space provided for bikes, and ample off-road parking within the courtyard.
Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
