Low environmental impact woodland cottage in a magical setting by the river; both contemporary and traditional, this is a perfect base for bushcraft, birdwatching and exploring the charming villages nearby.

Set within the woodlands of an organic farm and within 1 mile is the bustling town of Hay-on-Wye, known as 'the town of books' due to its array of independent book shops, where you can explore several galleries, sample local produce at the weekly market or discover Hay Castle ruins. There's a wide range of cafes and restaurants and quirky independent shops to discover. On your doorstep is an array of birdlife and other wildlife observable up close from an elevated position from within the woods. Walking enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with paths including The Wye Valley Walk, Offa's Dyke Path, and the Black Mountains all nearby and offering a walk through meadows, orchards, uplands and gorges. Those wishing to connect with nature have the River Wye riverbank, a beach for swimming, and a range of canoeing and bushcraft options on-site or very close by.

This wooden-clad lodge is bound to please guests with its cosy underfloor heating for all year round comfort. Step inside the large open-plan kitchen, equipped with a gas oven with hob and ample dining space for six. The lounge area has cosy sofa seating to sink into, a wall-mounted Smart TV, and floor-to-ceiling windows to really drink in those vast immersive woodland views. There is also a sofa bed if needed. When its time to retire there are three bedrooms, a double, twin (with sloping ceilings) and a twin which can be made into a king-size on request. Take some time to enjoy the tranquil tree-lined horizon with windows perfectly situated for bird watching and spotting foxes and badgers in the woods. A generously sized family shower room with WC is perfect for unwinding after a day exploring this popular area and completes the property.

A large wrap-around veranda accessed from the kitchen is ideal for relaxing among the trees and overlooking the river. From here you can watch the day come alive while sipping your morning coffee. There's an outdoor dining table for you to enjoy a home-cooked meal or evening drinks. Enjoy a BBQ and draw out the warmer evenings in this sociable space. There is no need to sacrifice creature comforts in the woods as there is an adjoining laundry room with washing machine and hanging airer rack. Ample off-road parking surrounds the property.

Had a fabulous holiday at The Bothy. Very relaxing being amongst the trees. The Bothy has everything you need. A great place as a base, so close to Hay on Wye. Will definitely be back.

I cant rate the Bothy enough - it is so peaceful, calming, cosy, clean and warm! Our group had a wonderful stay. We walked in to beautiful Hay to mooch around the shops, which is 5/10 minutes walk, but we could honestly have sat in the Bothy all weekend! Its hard to leave! It was our second stay - and we will be back!
