This secluded 17th-century stone cottage is the ideal rural retreat for larger or extended families looking for a peaceful break within striking distance of the Brecon Beacons.

Originally built for the family who worked the local copper mine, this pretty property is found down a private lane, among fields, with only birds and sheep to disturb you. However, despite it’s remote location, the village of Felinfach is only 1 mile down the lane, with a local pub and celebrated gastro-pub. Walks lead from the door into the surrounding countryside, but for something a little more challenging, Brecon is just 5 miles away, providing you with a gateway to miles of great walks and cycling through the Brecon Beacons. Alternatively, a gentler experience can be found in the literary town of Hay-on-Wye, 12 miles east, where you can explore the quaint streets of this historic ‘town of books’.

Stepping into this period property is like stepping back in time, with many of the original features still on show. Heavy wood beams and exposed stonework give a real sense of the building’s history, augmented by a large inglenook fireplace housing an open wood burner in the sitting room, and an old-fashioned range and bread oven that is still used as a fireplace in the kitchen. On cooler days the warmth from these fires creates a truly cosy atmosphere, inviting you to curl up on the sofas in front of your favourite movie or TV show. At the end of the day, a steep flight of wooden stairs takes you up to the property’s two bedrooms. The first is a small double, and the second is a family bedroom with a double and two single beds. The bathroom is also found on the first floor, and offers both a bath and a shower.

While sitting in front of the fire is a joy on chilly days, when the sun’s shining you will want to head outside and enjoy the large, walled, grassy garden. The garden furniture and BBQ allow you to dine outside , enjoying the very last of the sun’s rays before tuning in for the night. Parking for two cards available in front of the gate.

This is a lovely cottage, we last stayed 12/14 years ago and were very pleased to see that is had lost none of its charm and character. It is in a fairly remote location, very quiet, beautiful views. The stairs are quite steep and narrow in parts, would not be suitable for mobility problems.

Great rural retreat, with rustic features and private (and fairly isolated) location. Garden is fab for kids and for eating out. Inside is perfectly fine, with two fireplaces to keep you warm and all kitchen implements youd need. Very comfortable and well maintained, overall with only some minor niggles.

This place is truly lovely, and especially great for dog owners. The large garden is properly enclosed and it's easy to contain soggy dogs in the kitchen until they are dry.

We had a brilliant holiday here. The cottage is wonderful and the location stunning. We presumed that the photos of the garden had been taken from the road but they'd been taken from a field. The cottage is at the end of a track/drive and is so secluded and peaceful, with virtually 360 degrees views of the beautiful countryside. Really lovely secluded cottage with sheep for company in the surrounding fields. Fantastic views and a great place to recharge. So much to do in the local area, definitely dog-friendly, our 4 dogs were completely at home straight away! The cottage has everything you could need and was spotlessly clean

Very cosy and nicely remote in lovely surroundings. Well equipped with everything you may need. Very quiet and you can see Pen Y Fan and Corm Du from the garden on a clear day. The log burner and stack of logs makes it super on a dark evening.
