Located in the sleepy hamlet of Aber Village, this traditional stone cottage is perfectly positioned for discovering the attractions of the Brecon Beacons. The picturesque village of Talybont-on-Usk is only 1 mile away with its local stores, pubs and eateries. The tranquil Talybont Reservoir (500 metres) offers gentle strolls around the water’s edge listening to the distant bird song or enjoy the stunning cascades of the nearby Blaen-y-Glyn waterfalls (5 miles). Take to the water at Talybont-on-Usk (1 mile) with a kayak adventure along the river or why not enjoy a nostalgic steam train ride through the stunning countryside at the Brecon Mountain Railway (10 miles). The cathedral town of Brecon is well worth a visit with its quaint streets and independent stores. Visit the famous literary town of Hay-on-Wye (20 miles) and browse the bookstores before enjoying a ramble along the riverbank. Lace-up your walking boots for a day hiking the Brecon Beacons: challenge yourself with a walk up Pen y Fan (15 miles), the highest peak in South Wales.

Park your car on the lane and step across to your traditional whitewashed cottage. Open the gate and enter through the wooden front door up a step. Take off your shoes and outdoor clothing in the spacious hallway with its original flagstone floor. Just off the entrance is the cloakroom with WC. Head through into the country-style kitchen, a bright and airy space for preparing your meals, fully equipped with a range of units and worktops for your provisions. Crockery is stored in the traditional Welsh dresser and the kitchen comes equipped with an electric cooker with double oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. The large sunny conservatory is off the kitchen and is a lovely space to sit and enjoy your meals together at the dining table taking in the views across the Tor-y-Foel mountain. There’s also a cosy sofa in here for catching up on the days events or taking a quiet moment. In the evenings, relax in the inviting living room. Sink into one of the sofas and watch a film on the DVD player or light the fire in its pretty Victorian fireplace and unwind with a good book. Take the steep cottage-style stairs to the first floor. The restful master bedroom is decorated in neutral shades with a double bed dressed in crisp linens and a cosy duvet. Enjoy the views across the gardens or curl up and watch TV in bed. The second bedroom is a cosy twin with two 2’6” single beds. Enjoy the views across the garden from the bathroom as you soak in the bath.

Outside, enjoy an al fresco lunch at the garden table enjoying the views of the sheep grazing in the fields and the distant mountains or fire up the BBQ for a sociable evening meal.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was very comfortable and the views fantastic. The kitchen was well equipped and the heating system was effective and there was plenty of hot water. I would recommend it to future guests.

Great traditional cottage in a quiet location, ideal for the beacons. Edge of the village meant there was no phone signal or internet access at the property.

The cottage is ideally located for both exploring the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains. Close proximity to Talybont on Usk with two pubs and a shop/cafe a definite bonus, as is a variety of walks directly from the cottage.

The cottage was so homely and comfortable. The conservatory was a bonus, especially when the weather was not so good. I would never tire of the views, especially when in the bath! I actually couldn't fault it at all. The only thing missing was an internet connection so we could have planned our daily trips.

This is a characterful historic feeling little cottage. Not all mod cons but all the essential things you need. It has a beautiful garden which is a pleasure to sit in. The views from it are gorgeous. Its location is quiet but convenient for seeing the Beacons and the Monmouth and Brecon canal. You can walk and cycle from the door.

A cozy cottage with beautiful views from the conservatory, which we used most of the time as it had a dining table and comfy sofa.
