Set in the owner’s grounds which extend to 5 acres, there are plenty of walks on the doorstep through lush countryside and along tranquil bridleways. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal runs through Gilwern (1 mile) for leisurely walks along the towpath or to fully appreciate the scenery of the canal: hire a boat at Gilwern Wharf and spend the day meandering along the water. The area surrounding the property is popular with hillwalkers, with the gentle peaks of the Blorenge (5.5 miles) and Sugar Loaf Mountain (5.5 miles) offering panoramic views across the Brecon Beacons. Explore the vibrant market town of Abergavenny (5 miles) with its specialist food stores, weekly market and informative museum. Discover the industrial heritage of the local area with a visit to Big Pit National Coal Museum (6.5 miles) for a journey underground in this former coal mine.

 

Enjoying a peaceful rural location, this barn dating back to the early 16th century can be booked as two smaller or one larger holiday home. Approached via a quiet country lane, pull onto the gravel driveway in front of the attractive stone building. Enter the front door up a step and take the stairs leading to the accommodation. Decorated in neutral shades with bright accents of colour and co-ordinating soft furnishings, the holiday home has a light and airy feel throughout. The open-plan living accommodation is warm and inviting with exposed beams reflecting the barn’s heritage. Unpack your provisions in the kitchen area, fully equipped with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave and fridge. You will find the washing machine and freezer in the shared utility room downstairs. Share meals at the centrally positioned dining table that comfortably seats all six guests and enjoy the views across the valley. In the evenings sink into one of the cosy sofas and chairs to relax in front of the TV or watch a DVD. With exposed beams and doors leading onto the garden area, the restful twin bedroom is a light and bright room with en-suite wet room and WC. Stairs lead to the large family bedroom with a double and two single beds, again with exposed ceiling beams and neutral decor. The en-suite bathroom has a bath with shower over and WC. There is also a convenient cloakroom with WC in the entrance hall to the property.

 

Down a step outside, dine alfresco at the table and chairs or spread out your blankets on the lawn for a picnic lunch in the shared garden. Light the BBQ for a leisurely meal as the sun sets or borrow the telescope for a spot of stargazing under the clear skies.
