A pretty shepherd’s hut with spectacular views, perfect for couples seeking a rural retreat, set on a smallholding above the historic market town of Talgarth.

Situated in a glorious wildflower meadow with views up the Black Mountains, this charming getaway is the perfect bolthole for couples seeking to escape from the stresses and strains of modern life. Only a few steps away is the tranquil private lake full of brown trout for peaceful picnic lunches and strolls around the water’s edge. Wander through the arboretum of specialist trees and plants which the owner has developed over the past 50 years, listening to the soothing birdsong. There are wonderful walks straight from the property, including along the scenic Rhos Fawr Common and to the summit of Rhos Fach. The attractive town of Talgarth (2.5 miles) has a choice of independent shops and galleries, restaurants and cafes serving local produce and pubs serving ales from the local brewery. Take a tour of the fully restored Talgarth Mill or walk along the river to beautiful Bronllys Castle (1 mile). Discover the dramatic waterfalls at picturesque Pwll-y-Wrach Nature Reserve and follow the woodland paths to find the hidden ‘Witches Pool’. Further afield, the literary town of Hay-on-Wye (8 miles) is well worth a visit with its famous bookstores and craft stalls within the castle grounds.

Sat at the foothills of the beautiful Black Mountains, this idyllic shepherd’s hut enjoys a peaceful position on the owner’s smallholding. Step through the gate and into the fenced seating area surrounding the hut. Take the three steps that lead to the door and enter into the cosy open-plan interior. Designed to make the most of the space, the interior is light and bright with neutral decor and wooden accents. The kitchen area has a microwave and electric kettle for making morning coffee to sip outside and listen to the birdsong. Take your meals at the cosy dining table set beneath the window. When it’s time to snuggle up, clamber into the double bed that folds up to form the sofa in the daytime and drift off to sleep. There’s a compact shower room within the hut.

Light the fire pit outside the hut and settle in the cosy seating area to sit and enjoy your peaceful surroundings. There is a small wooden shed used as a drying room and for extra storage space. Parking is available by the meadow gate.

Lovely shepherd's hut, makes a perfect base for walkers. Lots of walking to be done from the hut, or just a short drive to many other options. Bill has created a beautiful space, like a mini nature reserve, and was so generous with his time showing us around. Would recommend, couldn't fault it!

Fab location for peace and wildlife and walks. Host was interesting to chat with. There are some 100 plus nesting boxes around the site so lots of birdlife. Suited my needs perfectly for reading and writing with the bonus of the lake to flick a few flies over.

The setting for this shepherd's hut was perfect. Wonderful views, very peaceful. A lovely welcome from our host Bill. The hut is cosy and well appointed. We didnt need to light the stove at night, just switched on the small heater provided. The shower was good, plenty of hot water.
