This property forms part of one of the most historically important sections of The Highland Club. It is located within the bastion walls of what was originally a fort used to house an armoury used in its defence dating back to 1716. This historic section later formed part of a monastery known as St Benedict’s Abbey; steeped in history and makes a lovely place to stay. The shore of Loch Ness lies at the bottom of this 20-acre estate, and the apartment is just a short walk into the village of Fort Augustus and the Caledonian Canal with its magnificent locks, which is a popular tourist destination for outdoor enthusiasts that enjoy water sports, cycling and walking. Fort William is 31 miles away, and is renowned for being an ‘all year round’ destination; water sports in the summer and skiing in the hills during the winter months.

Entrance to the apartment on the ground level with its own entrance door, meaning it is well suited for guests with limited mobility. The lounge/kitchen/dining area is open-plan, making it a very sociable space to spend your time in. The comfortable sofas have been arranged around a Smart TV. The kitchen is compact in size but includes an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The dining area is situated between the kitchen and lounge space and has seating for six people. The master king-size bedroom is of ample size and has been tastefully decorated and furnished to a good standard and has a TV. There is an en-suite bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC. The second double bedroom is of ample size and has also been nicely decorated throughout. The bathroom is located between the double bedroom and lounge/kitchen/diner and has a shower over bath and WC.

The property entrance leads out to a small courtyard area which leads out to the lawned garden beside the Loch Ness shoreline. There is ample residents parking within the vicinity. Guests have shared use of the Highland Club, Club Lounge located in another part of the building, along a 10 meter heated indoor swimming pool ('Chapel Pool') located in the Pugin designed Chapel, a steam room, sauna and small gym. Within the grounds of the estate, you will also find a cricket pitch, an outdoor chess board, tennis court and a children’s adventure playground, so there is plenty to do at the apartment itself. Also, on site is a restaurant which serves a traditional Scottish menu with a Mediterranean flair.

The Highland Club is a really special place in a beautiful location. Would definitely come again! The building has such an interesting history and is very well kept - we particularly enjoyed the pool which was a real bonus.

Great location, we had a great time. Very well equipped apartment. I have given 4 stars to comfort as the bed mattresses were soft, would recommend to change them for firmer mattresses.

The apartment was excellent, well equipped, spacious and comfortable. The location was beautiful with great views of Loch Ness and lovely grounds. The local town had lots of shops and places to eat and was pleasantly busy even in the off season. The location was great for lots of places around too. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

Beautiful location and the apartment had all the equipment you needed. The staff at the Highland Club are very knowledgeable and we had a great tour. It was lovely to stay in such a historic and beautiful place on the banks of Loch Ness. Fort Augustus is also a good base for exploring the Highlands although you do need a car. A comfy base to explore the area. The main building retains a lot of it's original features and is a delight to explore. Cricket on the green in the grounds made for a peaceful afternoons viewing.

Lovely holiday and apartment in fantastic Abbey and Loch Ness setting. Plan in advance as stores 25 miles away, local shop had limited goods and catered for day tourists, there are many options to eat in or buy takeaways. Booking swim is a challenge, but also a lunch time booking appeared to have residents or local staff by pass booking on line. SoRead more from our experience avoid 12-1 time pool slot.
