Gunnerside is one of the prettiest villages in the Dales National Park. Surrounded by scenic walking, traditional farm meadows, pastures, and fells, the Gunnerside Beck running through the village provides miles of glorious routes. Go hiking along the famous Pennine Way, cycling through the winding trails, or simply enjoy leisurely walks amidst the captivating landscape and return to the Village pub to join the locals.

Travel just 6 miles east and you will find the dales village of Reeth. Amongst the cluster of old stone houses, there are local bakeries, an ice cream parlour and tea rooms, whilst the village pubs serve food at lunchtime and in the evening. Friday is market day on Reeth Green, where you can haggle away and find a range of unique local crafts and produce.

This property dates back to the late 17th Century, seamlessly combining many of the original features, such as the stone-built bread oven, exposed stone floor and the lovely old beams. Step inside the large farmhouse style kitchen, which is fully equipped with a oil Rayburn oven, electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and Nespresso coffee machine. There is plenty of room around the large dining table for your group at mealtimes. Behind the kitchen is a handy utility room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge/freezer. An open staircase leads to the master king-size bedroom with its old beams and a delightful en-suite bathroom with a shower over bath and WC. Heading back down to the ground floor, head through to the cosy snug, an ideal place to sit back relax and admire the Swaledale views from the window, stoke the wood burner and settle down for the evening while watching a movie on the Smart TV/DVD. Next door, is the lounge with a warming wood burner, gather round with your group and plan the next day's adventure, or pop your favourite show on with the streaming TV. Off the hallway is a lovely double bedroom with fabulous south-facing views of the valley. Completing the ground floor is a spacious shower room with shower and WC. Up another staircase are the remaining bedrooms, made up of, a king-size zip-and-link (which can be made into a 2'6" twin on request), a super-king-size zip-and-link (which can be made into a twin on request), and a double with a compact en-suite shower and WC. Completing the property is the main bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC.

Be sure to take some time to dine alfresco on the south-facing terrace. Private parking is provided for two cars at the rear of the property and there is additional roadside parking (subject to availability) at the front of the cottage.

The town of Gunnerside itself is beautiful and school House is a great location to explore the area. The holiday home itself is fantastic and while quirky in it's layout (for those with access needs be aware that there are a lot of steps and levels) it has a real charm and has been outfitted to a high standard. Our family group of nine had a wonderful week at The School House, with lots of beautiful walking, cycling and running routes on the doorstep. Even wild swimming at Kisdon Force. We loved our stay in the Cottage, it was very well equipped and very comfortable. Great location and a very well-appointed, well-developed house. The owners have definitely maximized the potential of the space. There were 7 of us and we had plenty of room - I think as many as 9 could fit comfortably. All the amenities worked well. Martin was always responsive on email. Great trip, thanks!
