This rural retreat has been sympathetically finished with an eclectic mix of both old and new, simply perfect for those wanting to explore the Herefordshire countryside and Brecon Beacons National Park

It is set within the heart of a traditional farm, where cider apples and blackcurrants grow alongside a young thoroughbred racehorse enterprise. Here you can enjoy a walk from your doorstep across acres of farmland with lakes and small pockets of forestry. Or take a stroll to The Yew Tree pub where you can tuck into a lazy lunch. For a more challenging walk, join the Offa’s Dyke Path on the Hatterrall Ridge, or tackle Hay Bluff and The Black Mountains. The River Wye meanders close by, where you can enjoy a gentler terrain or hire a canoe locally from Hereford Kayak Canoe at Preston on Wye. Canoe hire is also available from Hay-on-Wye and Glasbury. A trip to the vibrant market town of Hay-on-Wye is a must where you can pick up local produce from a farmer’s market, browse the independent shops or relax and enjoy a director's choice movie at Booths Cinema.

The driveway to the barn will guide you past the farm buildings, where you can meet the horses whilst you wait for the gates to open. The entrance to the barn is set to the side. With space to leave muddy boots by the door, step inside, where the ground floor is both cosy and spacious and finished beautifully with a clever mix of vibrant colours and rustic textures. On entering, hang your coat on one of the conveniently placed pegs set into the exposed beams and take a seat while unlacing your boots. At the desk, research the day ahead, answer the odd email or browse the walking maps, local guidebooks and well-stocked bookshelves. The heart of the barn is finished with exposed brickwork and complemented with sympathetic furnishings. Sit back and relax with friends in front of the wood burner or enjoy a movie on the smart TV. For dining, the barn opens across the rear of the building, creating a space that’s just perfect for entertaining. Here you can dine in style whilst taking in the views across the gardens and lake. At one end of the kitchen is a cosy seating area where you can enjoy a chapter of a good book or play one of the many board games provided. There is even a Bluetooth sound system to set the mood. For the chefs amongst you, the barn has an open-plan kitchen where you can really make the most of local produce. The kitchen has been finished to a high specification, including a NEFF induction hob, built-in NEFF oven and microwave, dishwasher and an American-style fridge/freezer with an ice machine. There is a utility room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and separate WC. When the day is done, you will find two bedrooms off a spacious landing on the first floor. The master bedroom has a super-king-size bed with luxury bed linen. Bedroom number two has two single beds which can be zip-and-linked to make a super-king. In the bathroom, have a soak in the freestanding bath or enjoy the wet room-style rainwater shower. The water to the barn is via private supply.

The garden, accessed through the kitchen bifold doors, is set to the rear and is a great space for entertaining. Sit and enjoy a simple supper surrounded by nature or enjoy the dark skies whilst roasting marshmallows over the fire pit. There is also bike storage and off-road allocated parking for two cars in the covered carport.

Spent the last week of April staying at the Granary with my husband. Cannot fault it. Beautifully presented, spotlessly clean, fantastically equipped. They have anticipated your every need. It is on a working farm but we didnt find that to be a problem at all. The owners were around but certainly not intrusive. Great location for exploring HerefordRead moreshire. Such a beautiful part of the UK. Loved it so much, we are returning next week!!! Hide
