Bring your walking boots, as there is a, virtually private, public footpath from which a myriad of countryside walks await; the cottage provides easy access to explore beautiful surrounding scenery, for example, Monsal Head & Trail or the quaint village of Little Longstone with eatery pub The Packhorse Inn. Ashford-in-the-Water is a picture-postcard, popular Derbyshire village, offering two country pubs and a village shop. Indulge in the restful surroundings and take a picnic along the banks of the River Wye, by the Sheepwash Bridge. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are just a short drive away. Alternatively, meander through the shops and cafes of Bakewell, home to a weekly Monday market and the renowned Bakewell Pudding. Its twin, spa-town, Buxton, is only 20 minutes away and offers a lively arts scene, including the opera house.

Step into the cottage, via the kitchen, which offers everything you need to rustle up a hearty meal, including an electric oven and induction hob, fridge and dishwasher. Come together around the dining table, and plan the day’s activities ahead, over a long and lazy breakfast. There is a handy downstairs shower room, with a shower and WC. Also, there is ample space for storing coats and shoes. After a day’s hiking the hills, put your feet up on the corner sofa in the lounge, light the cosy wood-burner and wind down, whilst watching something on the TV. Head upstairs to find two bedrooms. A double bedroom, with lovely views from the bed, has an en-suite bathroom, with shower over bath and WC. A little further along the hall is where you will find the twin bedroom. Take your time to enjoy a lie-in with a cup of tea.

Outside relax in the enclosed garden with bench seating and BBQ. Surrounded by mature planting providing a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the summer sun. There is off-road parking for 2 cars.

Lovely cottage in a great location, walks from the doorstep and close to Bakewell for anything you need whilst there. Kristin and Ian are always friendly and helpful and the eggs from Caleb are a great way to start the day!

A comfortable stay, owner was very friendly. Downstairs was fine but could do with refreshing and updating. Wi-fi was flaky and could not be relied on. Would be happy to stay again.

We had a lovely stay in Red House Cottage. It's cosy and well equipped for 4 people, a stone's throw from Monsal Head and the Monsal trails (with a footpath right from the cottage) and well placed for trips to Bakewell, Buxton and beyond. The cottage was so cosy for a winter break. After time out cycling in the beautiful countryside, what better than a lovely hot shower and then a cuppa by the wood burning stove. Perfect!

Owners very friendly and accommodating but it is obvious that priority is in running the farm resulting in lack of attention to detail within the cottage.

Cottage is in a good location. Bed lining was spotless, but the kitchen wasnt clean. You have to ask the owners every time you want the heating adjusted. All dog owners should know that dogs are not allowed to be left in the cottage unattended unless crated. This information wasnt made clear until after I had booked and paid for the cottage. The coRead morettage is sold on the fact that its on a farm, but we never got to see any animals and theres no view and a road close to the cottage. Hide

This cottage was adequate for our short stay but was rather underwhelming. For what we paid, we have stayed in far more warming and more welcoming properties through the years. It seems to have very good reviews but when I leave comments, I think it's important to be honest and although it suited our needs for 4 nights, I wouldn't be returning.
