At a glance

  • Bespoke-built eco shepherd’s hut set within an established apple orchard
  • A rural location with far-reaching views across to the Welsh mountains
  • A great base for exploring the Wye Valley and experiencing the Dark Skies above the Brecon Beacons National Park
Property code: 82247

Peacefully nestled within the fringes of an established orchard enjoying views across the Welsh Mountains, this hand-crafted shepherd’s hut is perfect for couples looking to escape the real world.

There is plenty to explore on foot if you choose to leave the apple orchard, for walkers a wealth of countryside with waymarked footpaths, along with country lanes for enthusiastic cyclists. Both the Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons National Park are within easy reach where you can walk the ancient oak woodlands of the Forest of Dean or enjoy the changing colours of the Wye Valley. For a little more adventure, there’s the Brecon Beacons for mountain climbs, mountain biking and kayaking. Visit one of the many vibrant market towns where you can take advantage of the local produce at a farmers’ market, the closest being Monmouth with its ancient bridge and independent shops, and slightly further afield Chepstow, Abergavenny and Crickhowell.

Enjoying a slightly elevated position within the fringes of an established apple orchard, this is a place where you can enjoy the sun setting over the Welsh mountains as you meander across the orchard to the front door. This eco shepherd’s hut has been sympathetically finished and is well-equipped for couples to enjoy. Offering an open-plan living space warmed with a wood burner, a built-in kitchen with an electric two-ring hob, toaster, kettle and fridge for chilled produce. There is seating for two where you can relax whilst you take in the views and watch the chickens meander past.  For dining, there’s a fold-away table. The built-in double bed is raised and finished with soft linen and blankets. There is a shower room with a shower and composting WC.

Outside you have a wooden decked area with a table and chairs, there is a fire pit where you can toast marshmallows whilst stargazing, and beyond is the orchard where you can enjoy produce from the mature fruit trees and eggs from the free-roaming hens - the fruit trees have pretty solar lights that light up when the sun goes down. There is off-road parking for one car and bicycle storage.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Fantastic place to stay! Loved the location, the views and the bed was really comfy! Our dog made friends with the chickens and the sheep and it was wonderful to have the orchard to ourselves to relax and enjoy the surroundings. We will definitely be back in the autumn/winter and use The Applepip as a base to explore more of the local area.

I booked last minute and stayed during the heatwave. The Apple Pip was so tranquil and such a great place to relax with my small dog. Being surrounded by the countryside and being in a remote space was much needed. I would like to thank the hosts for being so amenable and checking in regularly, but not obtrusive in any way. A quaint and cosy cabin in a beautiful location. Wellies or boots are a must as the field can be boggy in wet weather. Comfy bed and basic essential equipment provided. I would suggest not washing up before showering as hot water is limited between heating times. Nice touch with freshly laid eggs from the owners chickens. Hosts were very friendly.
