Turn left out the door and within moments you will be in the centre of the market square surrounded by independent shops, friendly pubs, tea rooms and restaurants. If your stay allows, visit the craft and food market which is held most Fridays. Visit the castle ruins and, just 1 mile down the track, Duncombe Park stately home where, in summer months, visitors can swim in the heated open-air swimming pool. Explore the walking and cycling routes of both the Cleveland Way and Ebor Way, both starting in the town and heading towards the breath-taking moors for fabulous scenery and wonderful wildlife. The celebrated city of York and Castle Howard are 24 miles and 13 miles away respectively and a trip to the stunning coastline is a great day out.

This pretty stone cottage has an entrance that is tucked away down a private snickelway. Step inside to the entrance hall where you can kick off your walking boots after a day of exploring. This opens onto a spacious lounge/diner which is warmed with an open fire and features comfortable furniture where you can sit back and relax after a busy day. With the last reserves of energy, switch on the Smart TV and watch your favourite films. In the dining area, a table and chairs are set to the side and perfect for five to enjoy a hearty supper. If you have children, they can venture off independently to the additional seating area to play some games. The kitchen is up a little step and is situated to the rear of the cottage: light and airy with a country-style, it comes complete with seating to keep the chef company and is well-equipped including a range-style electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and French doors leading to courtyard. When the day is done climb the stairs to the first floor where you will find three bedrooms: one double with a TV, a twin and a single, all with plenty of storage space for your necessities. Also on this floor is a shower room with a shower and WC.

Outside you can enjoy the private south-facing courtyard, where a table and chairs await for perfect al fresco dining. There is roadside parking subject to availability.

This is an entirely lovely, well equipped and located cottage. A joy to be in. We would especially mention the comfort of the beds...they were cracking. The local area was also magic...we suggest booking places for dinner as we tried 2 places that were full.

A lovely, well equipped, comfortable cottage - we really appreciated the cake and milk in the fridge on our arrival! The cottage is ideally situated close to the town centre so it was easy to pop out for a bite to eat, a quick shop or to enjoy one of the great walks straight from the door. Hope to be back!

A gem of a cottage that smelt gorgeously clean from the moment we opened the door! Lovely to have an open fire too. The location is fab, you must try the fish and chips a few doors away. Comfy beds with everything carefully thought through. We even sat outside and caught a few rays in the pretty enclosed garden. Parking was easy and we managed to gRead moreet spaces outside the door. So much to see, eat and do in lovely Helmsley. Thank you for letting us borrow your lovely home. We will be back! Hide

Every thing was near perfect except the weather was so cold for a walking holiday, and one of our party of 4 could not go as the night before she slipped in the bath and cracked her ribs. We were not able to sit in the lovely garden because it was so cold.

Lavender Cottage is in a fabulous location being less than 200metres from the Market Square. It is well equipped and the owners left milk and a lovely cake for us on arrival. There are some lovely walks (Ash Dale and Cleveland Way to Rievaulx Abbey). The town has many shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. Fabulous centrally located cottage in Helmsley. The place was spotlessly clean and had all of the home comforts needed. I would 100% recommend this cottage.
