Enjoying an enviable location in the beautiful Forest of Dean, this charming cottage is within walking distance of a well-stocked village store and two local inns. Walkers and cyclists can access the many trails leading deep into the ancient woodland, right from the front door. It is the perfect destination for thrill-seekers, with rock climbing and canoeing at Symonds Yat, Go Ape at Mallards Pike and mountain biking throughout the Forest of Dean and Black Mountains across the Welsh Border. Whatever the time of year, you’ll be spoilt for choice, with a vibrant events calendar for foodies including the Abergavenny Food Festival and the Forest Showcase Food Festival. Music lovers will appreciate the events hosted by many of the smaller villages throughout the summer months. There's also the famous Hay on Wye festival and Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Step through the wooden gate , down 8 steps across the courtyard to the entrance of the cottage, which was formerly the hub of the village - the local store. Step inside where you can leave your boots and coats behind. The kitchen/diner has a contemporary twist with a window onto the quaint courtyard. The kitchen area is well-equipped with a gas hob and electric oven, microwave, fridge with ice compartment and washing machine, there is a small table and chairs for dining if you chose to eat in. The lounge provides the perfect space for relaxing after a day of exploring, the simple colours are enhanced with the original exposed stone, there is a TV and DVD. When the day is done climb the cottage-style staircase where you will find a double room with views across to the church along with a bunk bedroom. There is a bathroom with shower over the bath and WC.

Open the door onto the enclosed courtyard, a sunny space with a table and chairs. There is off-road parking for one car.

Lovely compact cottage, very well located for everything. Hereford is a great place to visit also Gloucester quays (grab some hot welsh cakes on the way out!) In SUP news, Lower Lydbrook has two small car parks, beautifully maintained area with honesty boxes. 1 to park, 2 to launch/land. There is free parking and free to launch along Wilton Road, iRead moren Ross on Wye. Also at Wye Valley Cruises in Symonds Yat, you can launch for 2, but we did the boat trip. A nice little place to stay which is convenient for accessing the cycle trails and Forest of Dean. A short walk to the chip shop and village shop, but a bit of a trek to lower lydbrook by the river where there is a pleasant cafe and pub with Indian takeaway. While the location is on village roads, the traffic does seem to zoom along and was noisy fRead moreor us. Lovely little cottage full of character. Beautiful area but being next to a busy road, I found having the window open a bit too noisy. Not an issue when the window in the sitting room is closed. Overall a nice stay.

It's a lovely comfortable cottage. Welcome was lovely, welcome sign, drink for the grown ups and a fruit shoot and sweets for the children. Which I thought was a lovely touch. There were toys and also a stairgate upstairs. I spoke to the owner before arrival and met her on arrival, really lovely and accommodating. Very comfortable and cosy cottage. Perfect for a quiet getaway. Pub and shop within walking distance which was ideal. Lovely dog walks near by and also not far from other dog walking locations. Cottage stocked with most things needed, but anything not there was easy to get from the shop. This is a really lovely cosy, well equipped cottage with a nice feel. However there are steep steps going down to the cottage and the stairs are also very steep. The wifi was adequate for laptop work but we didn't try streaming.

The location is fantastic, close to local attractions and amenities. There's a pub, chip shop and convenience store within walking distance. We appreciated the dedicated parkng space. This is the perfect home away from home. Cozy, all the comforts you could hope for, and pretty to boot. Surroundings are beautiful with lots of fun things to do for kids. The hosts were great at sharing all their local knowledge to make sure we had the nicest weekend.

Stairs very steep, handle loose on bathroom door, no shelf or dressing table in double room, which is annoying when you have to put your makeup and hair things on the floor. WiFi is awful.

Really good location if your visiting for mountain biking as only 10 mins away from mountain biking centre. 10-15 mins to a little mine with a great cafe and 10 mins from the farriers pub in lower Lydbrook which does a great Indian meal. Shame the colliery pub is shut. Lovely little place to stay with good facilities, clean and comfortable with eveRead morerything you need inc a small area to sit outside weather permitting. Lovely place and exactly as the photos. Very quiet. Super friendly village. The perfect place to explore the area. Fantastic walking opportunities. Great little cottage for a short stay in the Forest of Dean. Thoughtful welcome pack including chocolates for the kids and very pleased it was dog friendly. Everything was clean and well-presented. Good fish and chip in the village and right on the doorstep for walking / cycling / canoeing in the Forest of Dean & Wye Valley.

Cosy quirky and homely accommodation. Loved the welcome gifts and some of the other nice touches left by the owners. Clean and well equipped we had everything we needed. As others have said the indoor steps are steep but the additional handrail put in helps as Im sure the stairgate installed has put many parents minds at ease.
