Situated in the Cumbrian village of Lamplugh, surrounded by the Lake District’s fells, tarns, and deep valleys, this elegant cottage is ideal for families or couples who love nature.

This charming cottage is part of an inviting complex of properties; all three can be booked for larger group stays. Nearby, seasoned climbers can ascend Pillar Rock near Ennerdale (5 miles), or try family-friendly pony trekking, mountain biking, and fishing. Hike and cycle around pretty Buttermere (10 miles), Crummock Water (8.5 miles), and Loweswater (4 miles) which has a 400-year-old pub with delicious food. For arts, culture, and independent shops, visit the market town of Cockermouth (7 miles). Find ancient architecture and Viking roots in Gosforth (13.5 miles). Or pack a picnic and head to St Bees Head on the heritage coast, the starting point for the famous 190-mile Coast to Coast Walk (12.5 miles) towards Robin Hood’s Bay.

Step inside this handsome property, furnished in a country style with warm, inviting hues. On the ground floor, you’ll find a welcoming open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area. Rustle up family-favourite meals in the well-equipped kitchen with its electric oven and variety of kitchen gadgets; there’s also a fridge (with an ice compartment), and a handy dishwasher, plus a washing machine and tumble dryer. Refresh in the ground-floor bathroom which has a shower over the bath, and WC. Sink into squishy leather seating in the cosy living area by the warmth of the open fire and listen to music on the CD player/radio while you read a good book. Or watch favourite programmes on the TV and DVD player. When night falls, head up spiral, cottage-style stairs from the living area to find a double bedroom with an ornamental fireplace, and a twin bedroom, both with fabulous views over the countryside towards the fells.

Outside, you’ll find a private enclosed garden with garden furniture, and a shared parking area – parking is available for two cars by your cottage door. And there’s a pub (4 miles) and a shop (7 miles) a short drive away.

Another fantastic Easter family get together at Low Millgill Head, Croft House and Rose Cottage. This is our 10th year of staying (would have been 12th if not for Covid interruptions!) It was great to be back and to see so many improvements made to the cottages, especially the new kitchens and carpets. The gardens this year were in stunning conditiRead moreon and with the lovely weather we really enjoyed and appreciated the new garden furniture. A great holiday thanks. Hide
