Grange-in-Borrowdale has two tearooms and there are plenty of pubs in the neighbouring villages, ideal for days when cooking seems too much. Borrowdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of mountain top and valley walks, with a 5-mile walk through woodlands along the River Derwent to Rosthwaite. Grange Fell overlooks the village and has woods, rocky outcrops and small summits to explore, two of which are Wainwrights (King’s How and Brund Fell). For thrill-seekers, there are lots of outdoor adventure activity providers around Derwentwater. Have a go at sailing, rent a bike to tackle the fells, or try ghyll scrambling. Keswick is 4.5 miles away and offers a range of pubs, restaurants and cafés with a good choice of independent shops to peruse. For evening entertainment, there is a cinema, or the famous Theatre by the Lake, which puts on plays, shows and concerts all year round.

The front door opens to the entrance hallway, where a boot rack is perfect for discarding muddy shoes before you head through to the living room. Elegantly furnished you will find warm wooden floors and large windows allowing for lovely views of the Borrowdale Fells. Bright during the day, the room takes on a cosy demeanour once the wood burner is lit in the evening, perfect for snuggling down on the sofa with a film, good book or a board game. The compact kitchen is equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, full-height fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer. There is plenty of storage space and a dining table with seating for four and a further chair kept under the stairs. There is also an additional WC. Upstairs, there are three cosy bedrooms: a king-size, a twin and a single bedroom. Completing the accommodation, the family bathroom has a shower over the bath.

Outside, there is a patio at the front of the house with fantastic views. Garden furniture is provided to enjoy the morning and early afternoon sun, while the bistro table and chairs make al fresco dining a daily event not to be missed.

Lovely location in the Borrowdale valley with handy bus service and plenty of walking from the cottage. On the whole ,the cottage is comfortable but in need of some TLC after a busy summer of occupants .

We had a fantastic time. Cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Beautiful location. We did lots of walking straight from the door, and enjoyed sitting outside watching the swifts and soaking up the amazing views in the evenings.

This cottage is in a lovely location, reasonably clean and warm. It was fine, but with a little effort and attention to detail it could be fantastic.

Perfect location; lovely and warm; very well equipped kitchen. Only real disappointment was the shower which was very weak and not ideal at the end of a long day's hiking!

This cottage is not well maintained, it was really quite badly cleaned, smelled damp and the shower leaked which was mentioned in several entries in the visitor book so clearly never been fixed. The location is great for walking but the house itself was very disappointing. Sally's cottages used to be a cut above but since they sold out to the biggeRead morer company there is clearly no vetting. Dissapointing Hide

Lovely cottage in a great location. It has everything one needs for a fellwalking holiday, including a bus stop just round the corner and many great walks starting right at the doorstep. Loved the cozy yet functional decor (not sure why a previous guest called it dated, because it is tasteful and just as a cottage in the Lakes should look).

We loved this cottage in a great village location with an outdoor table & chairs in the small front garden. The accommodation is comfortably and tastefully frnished. It would benefit from a more powerful shower, however. The cafe next door is excellent and the scenery/ walks in Borrowdale are wonderful.

The cottage is in a brilliant location with many varied walks from the door. You can head off up Catbells in one direction, and the mountains around Dale Head in the other. Castle Crag is also just a small walk through the woods. It has a beautiful river. Parking is tight but we had 2 small cars and that was fine. The cottage has a busy cafe next dRead moreoor with great food, but no proper pub to walk to and no shop. However, Keswick is handy nearby with all its shops and facilities. Hide
