Sleeping four guests in comfort, this chocolate-box cottage is located within the peaceful village of Portinscale 2 miles from the hustle and bustle of Keswick. Despite being a quintessential setting, the village boasts a cafe, pub and hotel as well as easy access to footpaths across the fells and in the direction of Derwentwater. Two marinas provide opportunities for water sports including sailing and fishing, or you can explore the shoreline with a picnic in tow. Keswick is an excellent destination for foodies thanks to the plethora of popular restaurants, but you can easily lose a few hours browsing the shops and visiting the museum. Culture vultures will appreciate the charming family-run cinema and the renowned Theatre by the Lake.
Tucked in a row of traditional properties, this 18th-century cottage is cosy and homely thanks to the combination of original features and contemporary conveniences. Handcrafted woodwork and furniture feature throughout, and the owners have thoughtfully finished the overall effect with local artwork. Park at the rear and step through the French doors to discover the open-plan living space which consists of a lounge/kitchen/diner complete with a wood burner, timber beams and rustic furniture. Prepare your meals in the impressive kitchen with its stylish cabinetry, built-in oven, induction hob, under-counter fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and microwave, settling down in the quirky dining space to eat. Two church pews have been adapted to provide seating and a table, and this is also a good spot for enjoying board games over a few drinks. There are sofas alongside a TV, DVD and radio for evening entertainment, and at bedtime, the corner staircase leads up to the first-floor bedrooms and bathroom. A small landing leads off to the king-size bedroom with built-in storage and a dressing table. Next, a pretty twin room offers storage and two full-sized single beds. This room is best suited for children as there isn’t a great deal of floor space. Finally, there is a handy bathroom with a shower over the bath and a WC.
Outside, the garden has a raised decked area with seating for watching the birds on the feeders over your morning. Mature shrubs line the attractive garden, and there are two spaces for parking, one gravelled area and one further back to the side of the garages. To the front of the property is a raised wall with plants and a narrow passageway that connects the neighbouring properties.
