With its large gardens, private woodland and spectacular views of Skiddaw, this is the ideal setting for families to enjoy quality time together whilst enjoying activities such as fell-walking, canoeing or climbing.

Nestled in the Newlands Valley, this lovely reverse-layout cottage is a wonderful home-from-home. It has beautiful views of the impressive landscape, including Skiddaw, and guests can access other popular mountains such as Catbells, Barrow and Causey Pike via the private path through the woods. Keswick and its independent shops and eateries is only 4 miles away and sits at the northern end of Derwentwater which offers a range of boats to hire. For something more adrenaline-filled, head to Whinlatter Forest Park (4 miles) which has trails for walkers and cyclists, activities and play areas for kids of all ages, a Go Ape! and a lovely cafe. Further afield, you can venture to Bassenthwaite Lake, Grasmere or Ambleside – all popular with visitors.

Originally a corn mill, this modern country cottage is now bright and airy throughout, with wonderful gardens and woodland to explore. As you enter, you’ll find yourself in the long entrance hall which has lots of hanging room for wet outdoor clothes. There is also a utility room out in the shed, should you need to wash and dry gear ready for your next adventure. Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor (a double and a twin), both of which are light and spacious with views of the garden and surrounding countryside. Upstairs on the first floor, there is a further double bedroom as well as the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner which is double aspect to allow you to make the most of the views. There is ample seating for everyone in the lounge and at the dining table, whilst the modest kitchen has everything you’ll need to cook up some treats, including an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave, and a large freestanding fridge and freezer. Completing the accommodation is a family bathroom with shower over the bath and WC, and a shower room with WC, both of which are a good size.

Outside, there is plenty to explore. There are gardens to the front (shared) and rear. The rear garden leads down to the private woodland, its millpond (unfenced, so children must be supervised) and the private path that leads out into the Cumbrian countryside. Closer to the cottage, there is a patio with dining furniture and a few picnic benches dotted around for al fresco dining on warmer evenings. A BBQ is available in the shed, along with a washer/dryer. There is ample parking on the shared driveway.

We loved our week at The Parrock. The cottage is clean, cosy and very well equipped. The location is great. There are lots of walks of all levels you can do from the door, a decent pub a few minutes walk down the road, and Buttermere and Keswick just a few minutes drive away. The views over the garden to the fells beyond are lovely, with bird feedeRead morers attracting a myriad of birds. The entrance hall is brilliant for coats and muddy boots and the outside hose perfect for muddy paws! Hide

We all had a great few days at The Parrock which is in a fabulous location. The house was lovely and clean and very well equipped with stunning views and loads of birdlife to watch. Martin (the owner) was really helpful and even put some Christmas decorations up, which was a lovely touch. The only downside are the post holiday blues!
