Set in the peaceful village of Bassenthwaite in the Lake District National Park, this handsome 19th-century property has a charming cottage garden with enviable fell views.

This romantic cottage lies between farmland and fell walks in northern Cumbria. Inside, the contemporary-style interiors harmonise with period features from exposed stone walls and a welcoming open fireplace to rustic latched doors. You’re just 2 miles from the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. Pop on your boots and take on the challenge of a hike to the peak of Skiddaw (5 miles) or enjoy a more leisurely amble on the fells. Rejuvenate with an indulgent treatment at the local spa (2 miles). Enjoy theatre and cinema in Keswick (7 miles), also a haven for outdoor pursuits. Or visit the family-friendly Lake District Wildlife Park (2 miles) where you can meet red pandas, lemurs, meerkats, yaks, and zebras.

Step inside this traditional country-style cottage and leave coats and boots in the hall. Walk through to the living room and unwind after a lofty hike in cosy leather seating by the warming open fire. Choose from a selection of books and curl up for some quiet time by the reading lamp. Or, watch favourite programmes on the TV with Freeview. Head into the open-plan kitchen and dining area where guests can prepare delicious feasts together. The well-equipped kitchen features an electric double oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, and convenient dishwasher. The utility area features a washer/dryer and useful storage space. Gather around the dining table to enjoy family games and enjoy the garden views. Open the latched door and step up to the winding staircase which leads towards the bedrooms – enjoy farmland views from the window on the landing, and garden and fell views from the bedrooms. Choose from a double bedroom and a cosy twin bedroom, both with ample storage space; a sleek contemporary-style family bathroom with a shower over the bath, and WC completes the accommodation.

Outside, stepping stones lead along a gravelled path at the front of the property towards a pergola entrance to the lawned garden. Relax on the lawned garden seating and admire the seasonal flowers and plants while listening to birdlife - or enjoy morning coffees and fell views. There’s a pub with food within half a mile of the property, and a shop within 5 miles.

A great, price friendly cottage for visiting the North Lakes. With a excellent pub in throwing distance, really recommend this place to stay. An enjoyable week in a comfortable cottage but lacks a few basic things. Bassenthwaite village is lovely!

Quiet location but near a pub. Lots of bird life around and nice walks in the woods and fields just outside the village. Bassenthaite station cafe thoroughly recommended.

A very good value idyllic cottage in a quiet village, yet close to Keswick for supplies and petrol. Nicely decorated throughout with some exposed stonework and a private garden sheltered from the road. No Wifi, but the inn a few steps away can be accessed for that. If you go in winter, make sure you take sticks, logs etc to use the open fire and maRead moreke the cottage extra cosy. The staircase steps are steep and narrow so take care with them. A happy stay!
