An enchanting haven for two guests, set among the fells and valleys of the north-western corner of the Lake District, ideal for exploring Whinlatter Forest, as well as nearby lakes.

Make a romantic retreat to this delightful, stone, barn-style cottage, nestled in a secluded setting, near the village of Low Lorton, 6 miles from Keswick. Two guests and a pair of happy hounds are welcome to stay at the one-bedroom property, which takes in far-reaching views across verdant vales. Set out from home to walk or cycle through your surroundings, enjoying the tranquillity and spectacular views as you go. Spend time in Whinlatter Forest Park, 1.5 miles away, with its cycling and mountain bike trails. Go fishing or hire a rowing boat at serene Crummock Water, a 6.5-mile drive away; shop and dine out in Keswick, 6 miles away, and enjoy water sports on Derwentwater while you are there.

Make your way into this appealing, country cottage to discover it has been beautifully converted to offer a perfect balance of rustic features and contemporary comfort. From the porch, wander through into the enticing, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with its vaulted and beamed ceiling, stone walls and wooden floor. Fire up the wood burner then bask in its cosy glow as you watch TV or a DVD. Find the modern kitchen area has everything you could require for your stay including an electric oven, four-ring induction hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Cook up holiday treats in here then enjoy them together at the table by the window. Find stairs from the open-plan heart of the home take you down to a lower ground floor, where the bedroom and bathroom are located. The bright double bedroom has a door on to the garden and a dressing room; the bathroom has a bath, with rainforest shower above, WC and handbasin.

A few steps away is an enclosed garden to soak up the scenery and relax out in the fresh air. There is a table and seating here for al fresco dining whenever the weather permits. There is access to cycle storage, plus a laundry, with washing machine and tumble dryer, from outside.

Lovely well equipped cottage and beautiful location. Loads of walks on doorstep for our two rescue dogs, who need space to experience new things. Lots of places to visit just a short drive away. Relaxing and stress free break.

Absolutely loved this secluded cottage, loved feeling like my only neighbours were the sheep and lambs although the owners do live in the farmhouse. It was the perfect base for me and my two spaniels to explore beautiful walks. I didnt want to leave.

Had a wonderful stay. Quiet, secluded and beautiful location. A great base to explore the Western Lakes. The cottage is much more spacious than it looks. The additional bedroom came in handy for extra storage and a peaceful sleep away from a snoring partner! Safe, enclosed outdoor space for the dog. Beautiful almost beyond words cottage in the woods. With just sheep for neighbours, peace is at the heart of your stay. Everything is provided nothing left to want. You dont see the owners but have clear instructions should you need to. Your walks are directly from your door. The forest is lovely and a walk to Lords Seat recommended. We found Darling How Cottage to be very cozy and situated in a stunning, peaceful , dog friendly location. The owners who live near by were welcoming and helpful with any queries we had. Lovely cosy cottage. Well equipped kitchen with full size fridge freezer which was a bonus for all our Christmas food. Lashings of hot water in the powerful shower. Peaceful setting. We found many beautiful walks from the front door with no need to travel or park anywhere. The cottage is beautifully located just off the whinlatter pass with lovely walks from the front door this was our second visit this year, was lucky enough to climb helvellyn in the snow with magnificent views at the top. Will be returning next year.

On arrival the outside appearance is very off putting and scruffy. Inside the cottage is quite well done and comfortable. Location is very good with forest walks from the door and Keswick is easily reached and lovely.

Absolutely perfect for us. We were in the Lakes to achieve more Wainwrights and it was a brilliant location, and also so practical for us with the dog with all our walking gear etc! Great location for me close to Keswick and Cockermouth but not in the tourist bedlam area. Quiet, beautiful, clean and modern inside and rural farm outside. Met the host Phillip who was very nice and friendly and also had good knowledge of walking and mountain bike routes. I will be back

Lovely holiday. 3rd stay at Darling How and we have a lovely stay every time. Cosy cottage, great location for walking and mountain biking and seeing local attractions. Only issue is trying to book for a future stay as always fully booked. Hope to stay again when we can find a date to book.

We have just spent a week at Darling How cottage and found it perfect. Directly situated at the edge of Whinlatter Forest, we only had to step outside the door to access the trails and mountains. The cottage was clean, warm and excellently equipped with everything we needed. It was lovely and cosy to come back after a day out. I cannot recommend this cottage enough. It is beautifully modern yet retains character with the interior stone wall and wooden beams. It is set in a remote location with beautiful walks but you are also only a 15 minute drive from Loweswater and Bassenthwaite Lakes. This is by far the nicest cottage/location I've been to. This cottage is fantastic. It's everything you see in the photos and more. Stunning location right on a quiet logging trail. The views on that trail are amazing, through the forest, and surrounded by the beautiful fells; great for dog walking because it's sheep free. My dogs loved it.
