A charming cottage for a family, friends and three canine chums – find lakeside strolls along Bassenthwaite, hikes up Dodd Fell and bike trails at Whinlatter on the doorstep.

With waymarked forest walks, spectacular panoramic views, and wildlife including red squirrels, Dodd Wood is half a mile away and makes for a perfect day out. Whinlatter Forest, 7 miles away is ideal for letting off some steam in a treetop adventure at Go Ape! or one of the many mountain bike trails. Half a mile away is Mirehouse, a stately home with glorious gardens that has play areas that kids will love. Keswick is a thriving market town with independent and outdoor shops, cafés, restaurants, pubs and the Theatre by the Lake. Explore the beautiful Derwentwater by kayak or rowing boat, or for a less strenuous pace jump on a cruise. The Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with little seaside villages like Silloth (25 miles) and Allonby (18 miles) is well worth a day trip.

Cosy, traditional and with nods to the local heritage throughout, a warm welcome awaits in this holiday let. Enter the house via the smaller side door into the spacious utility area with plenty of room for coats and muddy boots. Here you’ll find the washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge/freezer. Head through to the bright kitchen equipped with a double oven, ceramic hobs, a microwave, slow cooker and slimline dishwasher, and boasting wonderful views. The wood-panelled dining room has a wood burner and table for five, perfect for gathering for a delicious meal after a busy day. There is also an armchair and small TV for those that need a bit of peace and quiet. Retire to the two comfortable sofas in the living room, warming your toes in front of the electric fire, drink in hand and pup at your feet as you watch a film. Upstairs, the bedrooms are elegant with pretty, floral soft furnishings, ample storage and lovely views. Both of the super-king-size bedrooms can be made up as twin rooms on request. The single bedroom is perfect for children with a choice of vintage children's books and a lovely view of the woods. The family bathroom has a shower over the bath.

Outside, the gardens offer fantastic views. The large lawn is dotted with mature shrubs and rose bushes, while the stone terrace has a bench and a small dining table which is perfect for a morning cuppa or a sunset glass of wine. Beyond the gated area to the rear there are paths into the woodland from which you can follow the trail up Skiddaw via Dodd Fell without ever having to go on a road.

A warm, cosy cottage in a beautiful location. Suited our family of five well and particularly enjoyed being able to have non-car days by walking from the doorstep. Very much enjoyed the perfect west-facing garden bench upon which to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine and watch the active garden birdlife!

Lovely old cottage, warm & comfy. Sweet, dog friendly garden, as long as you don't have an escape artist. Draw back for us was the fast, busy road. But the view from the garden, which is to die for, more than makes up for it!

As always a great stay at Rose Cottage. Lovely maintained gardens with a great view of the nearby fells. A very handy entry way/utility to take off boots/coats etc before entering the kitchen area and on into the house. Beds very comfy and the whole cottage spotlessly clean. We have stayed a few times now and we will be booking again in the future.
